The following does not represent my opinion as to whether Blago committed a crime or not. I will simply predict, based on the difficulty faced by Fitz in convicting Blago due to thin evidence, that the latter will be declared not guilty in a court of law, or at least will benefit from a mistrial.
Do you remember those 7 men (
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Miami_bomb_plot_to_attack_the_Sears_Tower#The_people_and_the_charges ) who chit-chatted about blowing up the Sears Towers? They were caught on tape talking about how no one would survive their plot to blow up this building; but because they said this while smoking weed and neither had the means to achieve this goal nor links to terrorist group, their case resulted in a mistrial for all but one of the defendants, who was acquitted. They are free men as we speak.
The Blago case is similar. There is no indication that Emanuel, Jarret, Jackson Jr. or anyone interested in or lobbying for a senate seat received offers from Blago in exchange for the seat.
Yes, Blago did tell others that he was mad that he was being offered only appreciation, but this would not be sufficient in my opinion to convict. His bragging would be the equivalent of the Florida 7 daydreaming about becoming the new Bin Ladens.
When Blago had the opportunity to act, he did not. I declared this an uphill battle for Fitz.
