I'm helping the needy get nerdy (getting computers to those who can't afford them):

What are others planning to do, or currently doing?

Larissa--

This holiday season, the grassroots movement you helped build can make a big difference for those in need.

I hope you will join me in supporting your favorite charity or contributing to causes that are especially meaningful to me and my family.

While many of us will spend the holidays counting our blessings and sharing dinner with loved ones, millions of people around the country won't be so fortunate. Donating to your local food bank will help provide a holiday meal to people in your community who can't afford one.

Talking with the families of deployed troops was one of the most rewarding experiences I had during the campaign. Giving to Operation USO Care Package is a great way to send members of our military stationed around the world a reminder that someone back home is thinking of them.

This is a time to celebrate our blessings, the new year, and a new era for our country. But it's also a time to come together on behalf of those who need our help.

Do what you can to help today by locating your local food bank and giving your support:

http://my.barackobama.com/foodbanks

Or send a care package to an American in uniform:

http://my.barackobama.com/carepackage

Thank you for all that you do and have a very happy holiday season,

Michelle

I couldn't donate much for now.. but I sent in a small donation..

11. "Non-brain food"? Then it would not be food.
That would be like a non-truck truck.

10. Your welcome.
Scientists can use my body as an example of, "how not to treat your body".

8. That's a fantastic effort!
Using Ubuntu and Open Office/GIMP etc. on slower computers gives people an incredible technology at a fraction of the cost. I've helped out some people in some poor parts of New Orleans and Puerto Rico with this solution over the years.

I'll check out the site more. Good stuff!

9. I'm Recycling Absolutely Everything That's Recycable
it's time consuming, and my house is looking messier, but it's rewarding.

When the weather warms up, I plan to volunteer.. doing something with seniors. I did the mentoring thing for a couple years, now I want to hang with old folks. Maybe cuz I'm getting there myself.

12. ...
My job is basically a volunteer effort and labor of love, we get paid so little. lol I work with the working poor and welfare populations by helping them get their GEDs and hopefully get them on their way to gaining a higher paying job and being able to provide for themselves and their families.

And I helped sponsor a family for Christmas this year. :)

I'm also a Red Cross volunteer and a VOAD volunteer. Still waiting on my Medical Reserve Corps test results. :/ So I'll be helping with different volunteer efforts in that way too. I'm also an City Year alum, so I'll probably sign up for one of their projects on MLK Day like I do every year.
