Simple rules about political discussion on the series of tubes

If someone doesn't wanna discuss a topic -

You'd think they wouldn't click the link and attack others for being interested/upset about a topic.

You'd think they'd talk about whatever story/topic they want without personally attacking others who are outraged over a different current event or issue.

You'd think they wouldn't tell others that their discussion prevents them from discussing another topic on the site because the other people make it too hard to post anything else.

You'd think that everyone would understand that no one forces anyone to go into a thread they don't want to.

You'd think.

5. spot on my friend. they're clearly ignoring the rules of civil discussion - they want to
shut people up, or want topics only they want, and it's really laughable. Follow those rules and everything's fine.

16. You presume WAYYYYYY too much my friend.....
.... I have long said there needs to be some kind of combined IQ/Psychiatric test that one must take before one is allowed to purchase a computer but sadly, we didn't elect a REAL socialist and that will never be the case.

So we're just left to deal with children on the playground who do not play well with others.

Poo.

17. You'd think that
But there is actually a guy with a gun to my head here, forcing me to enter every Rick Warren thread whether I want to or not.

He pistol-whips me every time I want to post about something different.

18. "You'd think"
If you've been on the internet more than two weeks, it's a wonder why "you'd think" any of those things.

The internet is where discourse goes to die. And where it then suffers through multiple bouts of abuse of corpse.

21. Unfortunately,
you'd only think that if you just started going online yesterday. :(

Any time you have a discussion site, there will be self-appointed Net Nannies who see it as their job to make sure people aren't RUINING a formerly WONDERFUL site by talking about the wrong things or saying the wrong things about the right topics. ("Wrong things" being defined by them rather than by site rules)

If you check, you will find a good half of these Net Nannies haven't actually started any new threads on the topics they think we all should be discussing and, in fact, until they showed up to waggle their fingers in disapproval haven't posted anything at all in months. They're just so darned concerned.

Sadly, there's not much likelihood of getting rid of them. There will always be people involved in an argument who will try to win the argument by inviting these concerned trolls individuals to turn up and post an Oh-my-God-what-has-happened-to-this-place thread. All the rest of us can do is refuse to allow Net Nannies to tell us what we should and shouldn't talk about. Eventually, they'll go away. Until next time.

Good post, themartyred. K&R.

25. too funny - true, they're only there to say don't destroy our beautiful website, no discussion
literally, in the first few weeks I posted, over 4 years ago, someone didn't just inform me, but seemed to yell at me for not posting in the right forum. it was not just 'this is the wrong forum for this', it was something smarmy.

thank you for the K&R, brazenlyliberal.
