Oh Noes: Official Gas Prices are Falling Thread. What is it where you are?
Visiting the family in Georgia and it is down yet again to $1.49/gallon (20 cents cheaper than at Thanksgiving!)

What is it where you are and how low do you think it will go and will it stay there?

My theory is that the oil companies dropped it down to help McCain but now they are stuck because they are afraid to raise it again under a Dem President and strongly Dem Congress for fear of being investigated, regulated, etc.

I think they also want to lull us to sleep under a Dem gov't so that we won't have the political will to switch away from oil.

Your thoughts?

2. Oil prices/economy are like a big pendulum. The farther they swing
in one direction, the more they'll swing in the other direction later on.

3. I'm happy that gas prices are where they are
despite the fact that apparently the fact that gas prices are so low may not be a "good" thing according to many news stories I've heard but then again I tend to question anything I hear on the corporate owned "mainstream" media including, unfortunately, NPR as of late.

After last summer, I was damn near convinced that we would NEVER see gas anywhere below $2 and maybe even not lower than $3 the way things seemed to be going last summer.

I honestly don't expect gas prices to remain this ridiculously low although I think I'll be o.k. as long as it stays mostly in the $2 range.

"My theory is that the oil companies dropped it down to help McCain" LOL. Yeah, it SURE helped him all right. :eyes: I was actually a little worried that with gas prices being so high that McCain/Palin's push for expanded drilling may gain some real traction with voters and, unfortunately, I believe that the offshore drilling moratorium DID expire at some point during the campaign however neither that nor the precipitous drop in gas prices benefited McCain/Palin as much as I thought it might. Well, actually, I suspect that the decline in gas prices may have actually hurt them b/c suddenly people weren't focusing in on gas prices as much. Plus, Obama kind of took the issue off the table by agreeing to consider offshore drilling- but only as part of a comprehensive package. That and the economic crisis that exploded in September/October probably took most of the attention away from the gas price issue too IMHO.

5. The speculators drove the price up.
They thought rapid economic growth in China and India would put increased demand on oil plus the effect of "peak oil" would cause prices to spike even further. They did not anticipate the world financial crisis.
