Bush History - The GOP and Dems Agree: Bush has Been a Fiscal Train Wreck - 12/28
The Bush fiscal mess comes into sharp focus when contrasted with a report from the Office of Management and Budget that is highlighted by the Clinton administration on this date (2000). The Clinton record includes nine consecutive years of fiscal progress, and the details are stunning, esp. after the last eight years of Bush. Also, a related Bushisms...

1. Great summary.
It's so sad looking back, but we have to remember, so we can avoid the same mistakes
In 2008 the Boston Globe’s Scot Lehigh quotes former comptroller general David Walker, head of the Government Accountability Office until March 2008. Says Walker,
“we have gone from a point where we were projected to pay off all the federal debt and have fiscal sustainability for 40-plus years to a point where we have large and mounting debt burdens“.

Basic decency requires us to step up and pay our own bills, instead of passing them on to America’s kids. Buying temporary popularity by foisting billions of dollars of debt onto the backs of future generations is just plain, crystal clear, wrong. Both Democrats and responsible Republicans can agree on that.

“I think we agree, the past is over.” Candidate George W. Bush, May 2000

Kick and rec for another good post.

5. You are so right
Fiscal management is a core responsibility of any adminstration, and the Bush adminstration royally screwed this up. It was so obviously unethical to give the rich tax cuts and send our kids the bills, while boosting spending thru the roof. The funny thing is, presidents do this to be popular. Didn't work out so well for Mr Bush

7. It took long enough for the mass majority
to get past the corporatemedia's pimping bush to get it through their collective head what a disaster that little frat boy has been for our country.

And, what a continuing disaster mccain would have been.

8. It did take long enough, too long of course. After 4 years ...
Americans had more than enough info not to re-elect Bush. But Rove's tactics worked back then to secure his reelection. Nice to know that in the end, the truth won out. Bush leaves office a failure (except perhaps, in his wife's eyes). Now the rebuilding can begin.
