Why is Bobby Rush calling for racial solidarity now with Burris, but not in 2004 with Obama?
Some great Illinois backstory: Rush did not invoke racial solidarity when Obama faced a Senate primary in 2004. Rush backed another candidate, Blair Hull, payback for Obama's failed challenge to unseat Rush in 2002.

If his reference to "lynching" yesterday wasn't blatant enough, Rep. Bobby Rush made his argument abundantly clear this morning on CBS's "The Early Show:"

"You know, the recent history of our nation has shown us that sometimes there could be individuals and there could be situations where schoolchildren -- where you have officials standing in the doorway of schoolchildren," Rush said. "You know, I'm talking about all of us back in 1957 in Little Rock, Ark. I'm talking about George Wallace, Bull Connor and I'm sure that the U.S. Senate don't want to see themselves placed in the same position."

1. Good question. This is one of the most cynical and manipulative political moves I've ever seen.
No surprise coming from Blago.

10. Not surprising at all given his conversion to labor rights supporter just before the charges came in

I don't understand why people continue to give this manipulative idiot (Blago) their support when he's shown several times in the last month he's just playing them.

17. I have to agree. And Burris is happy to go along for the ride if he gets to put "Sen."
in front of his name.

Blago may be crazy, but he ain't stupid...

20. Bobby Rush is not trash, but it's clear this is about personal bitterness
over Obama's run against him.

3. Obama looks like one of us, but he is not a "black american"
Not complicated.

Obama's black half is from his dad. The American part of him is a white american. Take away his skin color, and he is a white dude from Hawaii.

He doesn't share our experiences or our ethnic heritage at all.

4. One of the dumbest posts ever
are you saying you have to had had slave ancestors in America to qualify as a black American? Obama is as black as any black American. I thought this "not black enough" things was dead.

7. I'll agree with you on that. Dumb, dumb, dumb.
I'm sure the slackjawed window-licking racists passed over him over the years.

"Oh, no, we won't throw rocks at that one. He's clearly not of african-american slave lineage. What, are you nuts? He's JUST like a white guy!"

9. Obama is dumb?
I am not the black purity czar, nor am I the first to point this out.

I voted for Obama, and everyone in my house had tears in their eyes when he won.

But he's NOT a regular black dude. HE KNOWS IT. He's said it more than once.

Now go tell him he's dumb.

Because your post is so devoid of facts and reasoning.

How many brothers in your neighborhood are named Barack?

Obama knows he's not a regular black guy. He's pointed that out many times. He knows who he is. That's one of the most impressive things about him. Weren't you listening?

Here, I will let you catch up on the subject:

14. What is a regular black guy?
You are black so I will not call you racist, but stereotyping blacks males into one group is racist thinking in my opinion. Who defines what a regular black guy is? How does one join that club? The link you posted only says the CBC acknowledges that they have no special relationship with him because as President, he is ecxpected to be president for ALL Americans, not just "regular blacks".

By you're logic the following are not black enough: Chamillionaire, W.E.B DuBois (descendants of slaves but not American slaves), any American of Carribean origin, Nnamdi Asomugha (Raiders cornerback), Amobi Okoye (Texans lineman).

Black people in this country have come too far to get back into this further sectionalizing of American blacks based on when their ancestors entered this country or by their names.

16. What's interesting to me about this...
is that Rush seems to think he actually has credibility. I'm a 23 year old white male and I've "read" and seen enough racism (of all sorts) even in my short lifetime to know a racist when I see one. Bobby Rush is a racist fool.

19. Bobby Rush, the old Black Panther,
Edited on Wed Dec-31-08 11:52 PM by Undercurrent
is still fighting the old wars, in the old way.

Barack Obama ran for Senator and President as an American, not a hyphenated American. Bobby, and many of the old guard in Chicago/Springfield can't catch up with the fact that the first black President is a multiracial, multicultural, metro, modern man.

Yes, I know Jesse Jackson cried at the Grant Park, but a few weeks earlier he wanted to cut Obama's balls off. There are a lot of old resentments just below the surface, and a lot of stuck-in-the-past thinking.
