Edited on Wed Dec-31-08 07:02 PM by bigdarryl
this is going to be a big problem for the democratic party trying to not seat this guy. Some of the callers are even blaming Obama for coming out supporting Senator Reid position.

Nominate a person that is not very popular in his state, and then sit back and watch the fireworks spark.

16. Ridiculous, especially after Rush's
idiotic race claim. He had no such concern when he supported Blair Hull against Obama in 2004.

Burris is being a hypocrite.

He is so fixated on being senator, I can not imagine him not trying to make a go of it in 2010. It would be to hard for him to give it up.

25. I think he is just a placeholder
It will be an open election in 2010. The Democrats shouldn't need the advantage of incumbency to keep that seat. There should be plenty of good candidates to choose from.

33. WVON is a PROGRESSIve BLACK radio
station in Chicago. I listen to it all the time online and it is a Chicago institution. Check it out. Especially the Cliff Kelley show and Matt & Perri. Al Sharpton, Roland Martin, and Warren Ballantine have shows on there. Jesse jackson's daughter has a morning show.

39. yup it's indy and it's African American owned. It has a few conservative programs on it
but not many. I absolutely love Cliff Kelley. Obama used to call into his show very frequently before the presidential race got started. I don't think he calls in anymore.

30. I saw him on 1600 Pennsylvania Ave, and I just plain didn't like him.
He may be a wonderful person, and the people of Illinois would know that a lot better than me, but he had that Bush "smirk" that makes my skin crawl. Other than ambition, and something to add to his biography, I don't know why he thinks he's the only one who's qualified to be a placeholder. Add that to Bobby Rush's inflammatory statements, and I think it's a bad pick all around.

Blago's a cunning politician, and this appointment temporarily shifts the spotlight to Burris. With Fitzgerald itching to release excerpts from the wiretaps, I'm just very uneasy about any appointment Blago makes.

That was the whole idea.

It's like the guy who's wife is divorcing him, so he burns down the house, blows up the cars, and sinks the family boat. "If I can't have it, NO ONE can". Cry. Shriek. Cry. Scream. Cry.

Blago is a brat bastard.

And furthermore, Burris is no squeaky clean guy. There is the little history of his lobbying work (which will be investigated), and the matter of Burris seeking the death penalty for an innocent man ( http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=132&topic_id=8049189&mesg_id=8049189 ) If I were Burris, I sure as hell wouldn't want Fitzgerald investigating me.

Why do you think Fitz asked for a 90 day extension of the investigation> He would be derelict in his duty if he did not investigate this appointment.

Anyway, there are enough shit stirrers in the Chicago/Springfield who have their own agendas to make this shit pot boil for a long, long time.

40. I think the issue of the senate being an exclusive white club is real.
Too bad about the timing of all of this. I would have rather this issue came out front and center decades ago. But, it is what it is and I think the democratic party has diverse opinions and diverse ideas. This is just sad the way it's playing out at this point in history.

42. The Senate has several members who are Hispanic and Pacific Islander
Although I agree that the Senate is entirely too white. That said, we just got a black President so I think that's going to encourage a lot more black people to run for office in the future.

43. This appointment and all in its wake are politics on steroids.
Preemptively telling Blagoyevich they will not seat any appointment he makes was a smooth move on the part of Congressional Dems. Shockingly, Rush played the race card off the top of the deck, and Blago and Burris have saddled it. Now I guess we wait to see who blinks first.
