What makes Franken's win all the more delicious?
Coleman was "hand picked" by Rove to run for the seat after the death of Wellstone.

Wellstone must be up in heaven smiling right now. :)

12. What delights me, is that I feel Coleman was "very close" to "what happened" to Wellstone.
Karma, gotcha.

17. I'm sorry; I had it wrong
someone corrected me above -- he was chosen to run against Wellstone.

But after Wellstone died, Coleman went on to defeat Mondale.

20. Franken was also handpicked in a sense by the Wellstone family.
He's a friend of the Wellstone's and he was on the board at Wellstone.org

I have little doubt that Paul Wellstone is smiling from the heavens CatWoman.

:hi:

24. Al was angry at the way Coleman and the GOP
twisted what happened at Wellstone's funeral and turned it into a campaign issue. Coleman especially deserves to lose for that.

28. It wasn't his funeral. Paul and Sheilia's funeral was a private religious service
Edited on Sun Jan-04-09 07:41 PM by dflprincess
what the 'Pukes twisted into an issue was the public memorial held for the public man. Not mentioning politics at that would have been like not mentioning baseball at the public memorial service held for Kirby Puckett at the Metrodome (his funeral was also a private, religious service).

I'm sorry to harp on that difference but when the memorial gets referred to as the funeral we're just buying into the right wing spin. Not unlike saying Gore lost the 2000 election without mentioning that he lost because of a 5-4 vote of the Bushco Supreme Court.

I think the other thing that really set Franken off was when that weasel Coleman had the nerve to say he was a 99% improvement over Wellstone. That remark alone made this election personal for a lot of us.
