to a company that contributed to him financially. A grand jury is now investigating this--just to make sure there's no actual wrongdoing. Richardson is absolutely confident that nothing will come of it. In the meantime, however, Richardson (a savvy and experienced pol) has withdrawn his name from consideration for Commerce Sec. because he knows the investigation will take a while, and he fears that it might reflect badly on Obama. Also, he's probably concerned about handing Repukes more fodder for shitbombs. That all seems perfectly reasonable, rational, and sane.

In the meantime, what is an alarming portion of DU's reaction?

2. The contract and donor were subject of FBI investigation long before Richardson nominated.

Before the election, in fact. I remember reading about the New Mexico investigation and was surprised when Richardson was nominated for Secty of Commerce. This looked like a potential issue that might make a Richardson appointment problematic if there were further developments.

For example here's an AP article from August 2008 on New Mexico investigation: http://www.abqjournal.com/news/state/apcontract08-30-08.htm

CDR & CEO Rubin have been subject of investigations by IRS in 2006. 2006 article: http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601510&sid=ay2MR_l1FpAk&refer=markets_mag

4. are you saying that a lot of people are accusing the Clinton's of causing this investigation?
just to get back at Richardson for endorsing Obama instead of Hillary?

If they are that is hogwash.
