Why is Gillibrand a DINO?
Because she supports the Second Amendment? So did Howard Dean. The wrenching of clothes over Paterson's pick better not be because of that faux issue.

Does she support the EFCA?

2. She's not, really, but some people here have a knee-jerk reaction to the phrase "Blue Dog."
In reality, she's extremely liberal for her district: Pro gay rights, pro choice, pro alternative energy, against the war, etcetera. Only things anybody can point to are guns, immigration, and telecom immunity.

3. she voted against the $700B bailout package
http://kirstengillibrand.com/release.asp?id=1

$700 Billion Financial Bill:
In September, Congresswoman Gillibrand voted against the $700 billion financial bill. While mindful of the gravity of the financial crisis, she voted against both versions of the bill because of their flawed approach and lack of protections for taxpayers. Congresswoman Gillibrand has been named one of the most independent Members in the House of Representatives, and she did not feel the bailout bill would work as promised. In doing so, she stood up to both her party's leaders and the Bush Administration on behalf of taxpayers.

I don't really understand it all, but the free-up-credit argument was the only convincing one I heard back then, and that doesn't seem to have happened, and we don't really know where that $$ has gone. I'd rather we had mailed each American $2000.

25. As a constituent of newly appointed Sen. Burris, I'm sort of sitting back laughing
We Illinoisans didn't get a lot of sympathy here when we were less than thrilled with our governor's appointment.

All I can say is, whoever she is, ahem, the appointment will be legal. Deal with it. Perhaps you New Yorkers are now wishing your legislature would have superseded the governor and called for a special election? That's what I wanted here in Illinois, but the notion was scoffed at.

27. Has there been any official announcement that she is, definitely Paterson's
pick?

Maybe if she's as disappointing as some are describing (I support the 2nd Amendment, too, but not in the maniacal way that it is sometimes interpreted to mean, but that's a whole other discussion), Paterson did go for a "seat warmer" ... maybe? I heard him make comments about the chances, historically, of winning the seat via election after being appointed vs. those who have only held the seats via election... but the sound was not good, so I'm not absolutely sure, but he seemed to be indicating that he, personally, did not think the odds were great for appointed Senators to win the seat through election. I don't know - I'd have to look up statistics and see if that's the case.

I am underwhelmed by the lack of info on Gillebrand's issue positions (at least the one provided by another DU'er's post)...

Conclusion - I have no clue as to what's going on or why... : )

upstate NY, so she would tend to try to throw her district a few bones.

I don't like all of her positions, but I certainly don't like the threat from McCarthy to do primary battle with her over her gun positions in two years. That will not end well, and could kill the deal.

Do you simply live your life looking at how someone else labels things, or do you try to think for yourself from time to time?

Yes, she's a blue dog. But if you think being a blue dog means one is reaaly a republican, not a Democrat, then my question for you is how could someone with a 100 percent rating from the ACLU and who supports gay rights (indeed -- who went so far as to suggest all federal marriages -- gay and straight -- should be governed by the same "civil union" rules) is really a repub?
