Mika calls unemployment insurance benefits "welfare"! Gregory has to set her straight.
It took David Gregory fer crissakes to straighten out clueless Mika who keeps on ranting that Obama's stimulus bill has provisions that aren't "stimulative," which she lumps together under the heading of "welfare."

Gregory explained it to her and even had to remind her that "welfare" is a loaded word.

What is the matter with this woman? Is she totally clueless or is she posing as a conservative to spout their crap so they keep on watching Morning Joe? I haven't decided which it is.

1. Mika like * is a child of privelage
Does anyone here think that Mika has had to struggle with anything other than what to wear in the morning.

Her father should have forced her to do more community service in poor areas when she was younger.

2. Did she have her vodka yet?
Maybe she needs a stiff one.

Can little globalist, Mika, tell us why giving money to people with none is NOT "stimulative"?
Might they go waste it on Wall Street? Or not?

BANG FOR THE BUCK

What a dollar of stimulus puts back into the economy when spent on...

I don't necessarily disagree with you, tho. I just found it strange that it was he that had to point out the obvious to her...

8. What I heard him saying sounded like the refundable tax rebate
that poorer people tend to spend and not save. I'd like to go back and see this segment again. Perhaps it'll be up on the MSNBC website soon...

Thanks for the chart. I'm printing it out.

I'm trying to find it on their site but can't. Do you have a direct link to it? Is Moody considered liberal/conservative/middle of the road?

Thanks!

14. That's essentially what David Gregory had to tell her.
It is so blindingly obvious that her obtuseness is all the more puzzling. Here she was arguing that Obama's stimulus plan wasn't stimulative enough -- not whether it is conservative enough -- and she can't see that she is defeating her own argument by what she is saying.

16. I used to like Mika...
but seriously, she says some of the DUMBEST things! I hate how she gets on her high horse about stuff, and talks down to people. One minutes, she's telling people not to buy kids presents, then today, about the welfare and thinking the government should regulate the salt in our foods because CLEARLY ordinary people can't make good choices. Only SHE is responsible enough to make good choices. I could tell the rest of the panel were biting their tongues.

And on top of it all, she sits there when Joe is there and can't open her mouth.

17. I have news for her - "welfare" IS stimulative anyway.
Food stamps results in the most bang for the buck of anything we can do. And not a "maybe", but for sure.

(She ought to be laid off so she could learn all about UE for herself.)

23. Is she getting stupider by the day or what?
Unemployment benefits have an immediate affect on the economy because they are usually spent immediately. When people are out of work, they don't usually put their unemployment check into their savings account, Mike, you stupid ass. But more importantly, when the economy is as bad as it is and people have been out of work for months or longer and can't find work, should we just let them starve? Jesus Mika.

26. It's a right wing talking point and it's blowing the racist dog whistle.
Edited on Fri Jan-30-09 06:36 PM by Hansel
To these right wing clowns, welfare is synonymous with black income. Some of them truly believe that once you put the blacks in charge that they are going to start giving away all of the money away to the blacks who, of course in their minds, get everything for free and don't have to work for anything because of affirmative action and welfare. At least that's what Republicans tell their followers so that can get them to keep working their asses off for cheap wages while still giving them someone to look down on and blame instead of the people really at fault for their demise--Republicans and their corporate masters. This is part of the old Reagan strategy.

So every time that the Republicans want to rally their followers they look for something that they can call welfare. This is like the big freak out during the campaign over Obama supposedly telling Joe the Meathead that he wanted to "redistribute the wealth". The racist dog whistle. Psst, he's going to give all of your hard earned money to the blacks, we gotta stop him. Just like giving tax credits to the working poor is welfare. Again, the racist dog whistle.

The Republicans have got to find some way to keep what little supporters they have from seeing the truth and bolting on them. Mika's one of their biggest tools and she got her talking points bright and early this morning. I actually was pleasantly surprised at Gregory's efforts to set her straight.

29. She is on the wrong side of history. She can't see what's coming which is a wave of populism
that will wash over her like a tsunami.

The Republican Party is shrunken, old and decrepit. they are bankrupt as a philosphy (if they ever had one, really) and they are in the weeds. It's over folks. They're done, finished, stickthat fork into them. Goodbye...
