There's a tenor in some posts lately linking having an opinion with establishing a personal hierarchical superiority or inferiority to president Obama.

If you disagree with anything you are claiming to be "smarter than Obama" (Which is considered a metaphysical impossibility in the context of the argument)

So I was curious how extensive the requirements are to have an independent thought... to have an independent opinion must a person be able to bench more than Obama?

25. Opinion is one thing
But there is a difference between disagreeing on policy and making a negative assesment of Obamas political intelligence.

There seems to be quite a bit of confidence in many posts, that one has a better idea of the political consequences of this and that move than Obama. And in those cases its a fair question to ask where that confidence stacks up against Obamas track record.

8. Obama benches 200 lbs.
According to this.

I realize the OP was being sarcastic and doesn't really care how much the president benches, but still I thought it was an interesting question. (Well, interesting enough to ask my friend Google.)

18. seems like a strange number!
The bar is usually 45 then you add two 45 pound weights. That gets you to 135 and what you commonly see being a base bench in most gyms. Then you would add two 25s (50 lbs) or two 35s (70 lbs) or two 45s (90lbs)

To get to 200 you would have to add two 25lbs, two 5 lbs. and two 2 1/2 lbs. (aka oreos) I can't imagine anyone over 20 who would be caught dead benching with Oreos on the end of the bar. My guess would be he does 205, but I doubt that too. I am his age and haven't maxed out benching in probably 10 years, there is just no reason to do it. Now it could be that he does a small set of 3 or 5 with 205.

Just figured I would be nit picky to add one more inane comment to this thread.

28. Depends on the bar you're using
Mine, a solid bar, weighs 20 lbs with the collars. When I'm doing bench presses, on each side I have a 50 lb plate, a 25 lb plate, a 10 lb plate, and a 5 lb plate. 200 lbs total.

:)

Our plates and bars are a motley collection that we accumulated at different times and from different sources, so it takes a bit of ingenuity sometimes to get the poundage you want. Obama probably doesn't have that problem, especially now.

34. Yeah they must mean 205
No one benches exactly 200. SCrewing around with 2 1/2 lb weights is bad gym ettiquite.

26. In that case, yes I can
not that it makes any difference. 200 lbs is not that much for a man in decent shape. 250 and up starts to get impressive.

11. It's a good thing we have people like you monitoring everyone's posts!
Otherwise the "tenor" of our posts just might get out of hand!

Imagine comparing yourself to the POTUS physically or mentally! Surely it's a sign of unreserved, knee-jerk Obamatron behavior!

Run for the hills! Obamatrons are coming!!!

I have enough trouble keeping my family up in these times. I can't imagine having to do that for the entire country.

know why anyone here would question Obama's benching abilities.

But some apparently still do. How "progressive" of them.

32. I think the only way we can truly
assess Obama is by asking what his 400 IM time is ( meters, long course) and then comparing that to Michael Phelps' LSAT scores.
