Reid "We should not let the perfect be the enemy of the good"
Reid explains why he is happy that $billions are redistributed from helping the poor, furthering education, rail transport and payroll tax cuts for ordinary run of the mill folk, to helping the suffering defence industry.

Reid calls on other Rethugs to help pass it.

Washington, DC -- Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid made the following statement today:

"President Obama and I have talked a lot over these past few weeks. We both understand that we are in the worst economic crisis in generations. We both understand people are hurting.

"We both know that this economy must be turned around - that we must put people back to work and ensure middle-class families can get ahead. We both know that we cannot let partisanship get in the way of doing what is best for the American people.

"President Obama gave us good guidance - that we should not let the perfect be the enemy of the good, and that we must move this legislation forward. We listened.

"We are soon going to pass a bill that creates or saves millions of good-paying jobs here in America. We are making life easier for the middle class, who are squeezed between rising prices and disappearing incomes. And we are making investments in America to strengthen our long-term economic future.

"Is this plan perfect? No. But at the end of the day we are passing a bold and responsible plan that will help our economy get back on its feet, put people to work and put more money in their pockets.

"I appreciate the efforts of those Republicans who have worked with us to craft this good bill. I hope that even more will join us to pass it."

6. 60 votes is needed
unless my math is still as faulty as it was in high school, I don't think the Dems have 60 senators.

10. it's not a question of fillibustering, that's what people aren't getting
in order to increase the national debt and defecit, you need 60 votes. It can't happen WITHOUT 60 votes. It has nothing to do with a filibuster.

BY LAW, any bill that increases the debt has to be passed by 60 votes.

15. All that is required is a majority of votes.
Some of the amendments have gone through on a majority. It is just that a single Senator can as far as they are enabled, hold up legislation as near to permanently as they want. Not one Rethug Senator has the ability to do it though.

3. Alas for us, Harry is neither.
And his little platitude about copping out does not interest me. Do us a favor and step down, Harry. You can't handle the job.

8. Why can't he at least tell it like it is? The Rs are screwing the people again
Cutting school nutrition programs and Head Start for goddess sake! Why does he try to put a happy face on it and make like it's some victory for a mythical "bi-partisanship?" THIS is part of why the Rs get their way - they make no bones about spinning the Ds the way they want them spun - but sniveling Reid has to stroke up to them while they are stomping on him - and on us.

19. So asking for you to do your job is now asking for perfection eh Harry,
You goddamn fucking spineless sack of shit. You're willing to give away the farm in order that you don't have to put up a fight, and it's not even your farm.

The American people are going to suffer because of your unwillingness to do your job on this one, but you won't care because you're so goddamn insulated from reality up there on the Hill.

20. Deja Vu.
I can't tell you how many Democrats, and how many DUers, use this as a campaign talking point, every time centrist candidates are projected to win primaries.

It doesn't work then, and it's not working now.

It always triggers the same response from me:

:puke:
