Michael Steele was just called out by Chuck D on D.L. Hughley's show
Steele tried to talk about his "street cred" by telling Chuck D that he grew up in the projects-from 8th St. in D.C., which he called a "whole different world from where I am right now" and Chuck D started shaking his head and said, "That's where Black people live but that ain't the projects," and Steele had to backtrack pretending he wasn't really talking about himself, but, "You know what I'm sayin'..."

Steele lost all credibility after that. They brought up Rush Limbaugh and said he was speaking again today saying he hopes the president fails, and HE'S the leader of the Repub. party and Steele said no, HE'S (Steele's) the leader of the Repub. party, and Limbaugh's just an entertainer. By the end of the interview, D.L. and Chuck D were both saying he needs to come over to their side, because they aren't buying what he's selling (but they DO respect him).

1. Where's video of this?
I have GOT to see this. He's going to try to school Chuck D about the projects?

Chuck D is hip-hop -- the real hip-hop, not the "you be da man" hip-hop off the hook on the RNC tip that Steele tries to be.

...is a badass. I got my first Public Enemy album when I was 10 years old, and appreciate voices such as his that speak TRUTH.

Chuck gives credence to the phrase 'keeping it real' and never forgetting where he came from despite his success.

8. Steele was via satellite. But after he called Steele on the neighborhood
thing, both he and D.L. were saying things that showed they didn't buy it, like it seems so transparent that in response to Hillary they got Palin, and in response to Obama they got HIM. He had the nerve to say he came before Obama (and they didn't know enough to challenge him on THAT claim by pointing out how Obama was a State Senator before becoming a U.S. Senator. :eyes: They also said they see him as being used by the RNC and he denied it. It was obvious they weren't buyin' it.

25. I think you have completely missed the point.
They're saying Steele has no credibility. No one cares where you grew up; as Chuck D pointed out in the clip he didn't grow up in the projects. Steele has no credibility because he's trying to tell other black people that the Republican party is the one that would do better by them despite all the evidence to the contrary.

Black people vote Democratic because that's the party that espouses principles that are in our interest and when you see a party that not only doesn't have many people in it that looks like us but doesn't give a rat's ass what we think. But idiots like Steele, who are always trying to suck up to their racist constituents (i.e. the Republican party) always try to make it spin it as black people being mindlessly devoted to the Democratic party and that's why Steele is a joke in most of the black community.

I have no idea what you're basing your conclusion on.

buh bye credibility of Michael Steele-

what little you had with me

knowing what a political campaign loser you were in Maryland with the very folks and factions you claim to be leading the RNC to attract to the GOP
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Pray for this man to be courageous! We don’t need any more wimps.

NOR do we need any armchair-patriot GOP circular firing squads.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Gee Michael, maybe your BROTHERS will share a spliff w/you later. How pathetic to cave so they can say your bright. He thinks your a wimp and he’s right.

You are the head of the RNC and you don’t want him to fail?

Pray for America
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I think Steele might be a Dem plant to destroy the GOP from the inside.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
We are so fuc&ed. The Commies march on, lockstep, in message, and a$$wipes like this guy keep stabbing us in the back.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
HEY STEELE
Country and free marktets are going to hell in a handbasket WHEN IS THE TIME TO BE INCENDIARY? When its %*$ Gulags for Conservatives?

Thats it I am leaving the party.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Steele can kiss my butt...I hadn't formed an opinion about him until now.
He's another RINO loser POS!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Steele’s chairmanship of the DNC is now officially DOA.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Can’t get over the race thing Mikey?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Is he nuts? Does he not want contributions? You insult or stand AGAINST Rush....you are spitting on your base. Looks like I may have to change my affiliation to INDEPENDENT (until CONSERVATIVE) is allowed. I didn’t leave the Republican party...they left me.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Frankly, I wouldn't take this too seriously. Steele will be glad to have Rush on his side when the time comes. This is, to be honest, a black guy talking ya-ya with other black guys and that kind of "dialog" never yields anything terribly useful.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This is no real surprise to me.
I’ve never been that impressed by anything I have ever
heard from Steele.
But now he’s ascended, Peter Principle-like, to the level
of his incompetence, and has some kind of “official” status. He’s a fool if he thinks he can minimize Rush Limbaugh’s influence in any way: Limbaugh has the most fiercely loyal followers of ANYONE in the MEDIA, and I DO mean ANYONE. Steele, unfortunately, is looking precisely like an inverted Uncle Tom figure, of a kind not only not fit to speak for the ‘new’ Conservative identity of the revived Republican Party, but not even belong in that Party.
Just another across-the-aisle figurehead figure, like you-know-who, whose whole mission is to absorb himself, and all of us, in what is NOW shaping up as the most dangerous and demagogic rush toward a Great Depression, out of which SOCIALISM is supposed to emerge , phoenix-like, out of the ashes. Got news for everyone.....NOTHING is going to emerge out of the ashes, except tyranny. The Enemy we always knew was within, is right there parading itself in front of our faces every day, and we’d better not be afraid to identify it.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
“I hadn’t formed an opinion about him until now.”

Dittos to that. Was on the fence, now I’m off. How do we fire him? How do we create a viable third party?

It’s like Rush said, we’re always acting like we’re the minority, letting the dems set the agenda while all we do is react to their bullying. We’ll, they set the agenda with a black president, and the pathetic GOP had to find their own black person to put in the store window. Enough of that crap. We’re always responding to them; we need to start taking the lead and putting them on the defensive for a change.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Well...looks like another loss in 2010....someone should buy this knucklehead a clue.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
What do Jindals’ rebuttal, Palin’s Couric interview and Steele’s ‘Rush’ comments all have in commom?

Everyone has a bad day. Steele, quite frankly, should have been positive and said Rush explained conservative principles very well and left it at that.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Mr Steele. How’s that math working out for you?

Approximate numbers
100 Million voters
47 million votes for Palin/McCain
20 million Rush listeners
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Screw Steele...Rush should just start a conservative Party. If they can not handle truth who needs em? Rush said what I think.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Steele can kiss my butt...I hadn't formed an opinion about him until now. He's another RINO loser POS!
Exactly, I didn't have an opinion either way about Mr. Steele till now.....hmmmm....Rush or Steele? Rush or Steele? I'll take Rush!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
so Steele chooses to remove his mask on the occasion of the best public articulation since omomma took office of our American Spirit and exceptionalism.

Fine.

If the GOP follows suit, So Be It.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Rush was wonderful and positive and very encouraging last night; I didn’t see a single “incendiary” thing in his talk, unless Steele has bought into the idea that it’s verboten to talk about The One in anything less than adulatory tones.

I didn’t know much about Steele and I wasn’t sure what to think about him, but I think he’s made it pretty clear now where he stands.

And those comments are just from the first page.

32. Note to GOP- Hip Hop is a community. It's about building. Sharing.
My experience listening to it is that if you even just look at the sampling, you'll see it's one artist taking another artist's sound and running with it. It's a snowball rolling, getting bigger. It's a community of artists building and shaping something that says something.

This bs about Steele saying he was attracted to the concept of a party for the individual, when he was 17 years old. Not only is he still 17, but that "individual" talk is just code for "get yours". Greed. Move the obstacle (government) out of the way so you can do your thing. Sadly, that doesn't address what the very need of government is. That is to create a better society. Government is the Hip Hop we want. In other words, "individual" is the antithesis of community in this respect. Individual in the GOP sense of the word, is just their excuse to ignore INDIVIDUALS.

I love Public Enemy music but those two ended up with such different impacts on our society today. I feel like Chuck D. is out there making a difference in a very positive way still fighting the message he rapped about in his music. Flavor Flav is showing the world that there are women who will stoop to the lowest form of skankiness (as lead by the skankmaster Flavor Flav) to be on TV.

57. Oh as a hype man he was the tops
but it just seems he's lost that luster with his tacky TV shows. I mean it was cute that he was in Surreal Life and the followed it up with the connection that he had with Brigette Nielson. But then VH1 decided to reorg their programming that every show now has like a 2 degrees of separation from Flavor Flav. And the girls he brought on that show were some of the tackiest women you'd meet. (which is pretty much how it is for Bret Michael's version of that show too)

45. I wish they didn't feel the need to praise Steele at the beginning of that interview.
I know Chuck's heart is in the right place, Hughley I've never cared for. But Steele comes across NO DIFFERENTLY than any other right wing voice that's been thrown out over the years and in fact he says almost exactly the same things about the black community that other republicans have said. Steele's use of "street slang" is an embarrassingly overt affectation - I posted once before about him filling in for Bill Bennett's talk radio show and opening the show like, "Whaddup yo, it's Michael Steele in the house, getting ready to kick your morning off and get this party started in the place to be, I want to give a shout-out to everyone listening", I mean it was just that bad.

47. I agree...
D.L. praising him I can see because he's not really that knowledgeable about politics (he had Blagojevich on his show and took his side 100%, saying Blagojevich is his "man," but Chuck D should've called him out right from the start. He knows better, but at least he "got with the program" ;) pretty soon into it.

I can believe how Steele was talking on the radio. He's such a phony. He kind of reminds me of Vanilla Ice "back in the day." :D

52. "Blagojevich is the man"?!?!
I'm glad I didn't see that because it would be stuck in my head forever.

You couldn't be more right about D.L. and his lack of even the most mundane understanding of politics. There was a crude moment in that interview where he really swung for the fences, "I watched the Republican National Convention and to me it looked like Nazi, Germany". Now, none of us here are fans of republicans, but come on D.L. you couldn't find another analogy that wasn't as hackneyed as that?

Last - saying something as foolishly paradoxical as "Blagojevich is the man" is, IMO, directly tantamount to saying "the republican party needs a hip hop makeover".

53. He's D.L.'s man...
and D.L. bought Blagojevich's BS that he was only trying to get people healthcare, that he didn't have any rights to fight his impeachment, etc.

after he started talking about people like CHUCK who grew up in the projects, he added,"Myself-that's a whole different world from where I am right now..." He was trying to lump himself in with Chuck D and people who come from the projects.

60. Incorrect
Chuck D, didn't grow up in the projects. Chuck D, said that he didn't grow up in the projects. He said he grew up in a Black neighborhood. Michael Steel affirmed the same for himself. They both affirmed that it is a different world.

Steele on implying he, "too," came from the projects.

Edited to say I realize Chuck D did NOT come from the projects like Steele claimed he did.

56. He assumed Chuck D was from the projects, and he isn't.
That was what the issue was and that is why Chuck D gave him that look.

59. No he didn't
I watched it. The extent of the exchange is that "it," being from a black neighborhood, is a whole different world. Which, many know, is true.

66. Exactly!
Chuck D grew up in Long Island, went to college and got his BA degree in Business or design or something like that. Typical of someone "pretending" to assume that all hip hop artists had some sort of hard knock life. The look on Chuck D's face was priceless. And the WAY that Steele said it was just...elitist. Yes, very elitist.

68. That's right...
Chuck D TOLD Steele he grew up in Long Island and Steele kept up with his "from the projects" comments saying it's a whole 'nother world from where Steele lives now.

They were talking about the projects. Chuck D said he was from Long Island. He said he was not from the projects but from a black neighborhood. Steele then said the same went for him. They both agreed that it was a different world.

Steele said to Chuck D, "People like you who came out of the projects..." and Chuck shook his head saying, "I'm from Long Island-that's not the projects..." after Steele went on for a little longer, and Steele just kept going, trying to prove his "street cred" as if they were BOTH from the projects-him (Steele) being from DC-8th St., a whole different world from where he is now. THEN Chuck D said that Black people live in those neighborhoods but they're not the projects, and THEN Steele started backpedaling.

71. that's not what happened, watch the clip
Steele started out not saying anything about where HE was from, that was later after Chuck called him out. He said (approximately) "Guys like you, Chuck, coming out of the projects..." and Chuck was all (something to the effect of) "I'm from Long Island, you ignorant fuck...not the projects." He corrected Steele saying he was from "where black people live," and Steele parroted that and then started talking about where he grew up. Steele should have just said goodnight right then and there, because the conversation was over. It was unbelievable. Especially when his whole thing was sort of presumptuous and offensive to begin with ... he was making it clear he wanted to use rap to spread the message of the GOP. Then Chuck called him on that too, and Steele backpedaled some more. Now Steele has APOLOGIZED to Rush Limbaugh for dismissing him on DL's show as simply an incendiary entertainer (as opposed to the "de facto head of the Republican party"). Unbelievable. I think I have just lost all respect for the guy, I used to kind of like him on Bill Maher all the time, thought he was usually pretty reasonable and balanced.
