I'm finally watching W.

1. I started watching it a couple weeks ago, but couldn't finish

Parts of it were sympathetic, parts not so much, but I just realized I didn't want to watch anything related to George W. Bush right now. We finally freed ourselves from the horror of his presidency...who wants to go back and relive it? Maybe in a few years it'll be interesting but right now I just can't stomach it.

watch it on its merits as a film alone and try to disconnect it from the reality then it's a good piece of viewing. There is a part that really made me laugh after the pretzel incident on paltalk voice chat everyone had the idea to send him pretzels for christmas(not that I sent him any). If the film is accurate he acutally ate them all regardless, that's so George Bush and we're a better world now he's moved on.

9. I saw it in a theater and it was amusing entertainment

Bush could have been portrayed a lot worse, but the movie certainly shows how much of an asshat he is/was. Even people who think the worst of Bush and wish Oliver Stone was much harsher will certainly get some entertainment value from the nightmare we lived through.

I'm sure the DVD has some interesting special features...

10. I thought it portrayed his personality perfectly

People can go elsewhere for the details of the crimes committed. For pure character analysis, the film was perfect. Devil in a white hat says it all.

it is long. There is no novelist or screenwriter anywhere that could have made up this cockimamie story with its fucking cast of fools.

And, the damned (rented)DVD sat there for nearly 2 weeks before I could make myself watch. Brolin was good. The movie was ok, but far too kind to W. I thought Condaleeza came off as an absolute creep, though--something I certainly appreciated.

13. I Just Finished Watching It This Evening........

Brolin nailed Dubya and Dubya came off as pathetic. Unfortunately - the primary focus was on the Iraq War and it just touched on torture and spying. What I found more interesting were the portrayals of Cheney, Rice, Rove, Wolfowitz, Powell, Fleisher, Laura, Poppy, Barbara, etc. The supporting characters made the movie to me. Stone took some poetic license in depicting some of Bush's foibles. The fool me once quote I recall as being said at a news conference - and Stone showed it in a private meeting. A couple of other scenes were misplaced as well.

All in all - I enjoyed the movie - for the movies sake - not because of the depiction of Bush. I actually thought Stone was kind of easy on Dubya. It really should have come off harsher.

I really think somebody will come along and make a better movie which will include some of the other major f***ups including this financial meltdown.

i thought about renting W but decided against it, i'm so done with Bush, so much so i went through all my books, from the last 10 years and donated all the ones about him to the library, the only one i held onto it Fortunate Son by James Hatfield.

17. We watched it tonight, too. Free -- from our public library. Glad I didn't pay to see it.

My husband said it just made him sick.
Too much sadness and death and all for nothing.

I thought it was disjointed and without character arc.
Because the movie follows no pattern of development (either upward or downward), it flopped.
For a tragedy to connect with an audience, we need to feel catharsis.
I only felt a lingering sadness that ached with what was lost in those years.
No catharsis for me. Nope. Sadness tinged with anger mixed with regret.

Oh, and I didn't mean to say that I don't "pay" for our public library. Our library is one place where we make it a point to walk in with a big check near the end of the year. We love doing that. All the librarians on duty at the time come out of the office and just beam at us. Makes us feel good that they appreciate our donation. And we love the public library!!!!!

it was really kind of boring. and I think that is the intent. Oliver Stone was trying to do worse than a Fahrenheit 9/11 job on Bush. He was trying to show just how normal and underwhelming this hack of a politician really was. I believe he did a good job of showing how a "man" (term used loosely) with an axe to grind/something to prove, with very little intellectually going on, and with religious certainties who is easily convinced of ideas and that he himself is "da man" can be programmed and maneuvered by the evil.

I truly don't consider Bush evil. Most people who went with their gut in the beginning saw an empty suit being mind controlled by a scary group. I'm not saying Bush shouldn't be held accountable, but he's just not the prime mover in all of this.

It was a good job of portraying someone that in any other circumstances wouldn't have been worth portraying.

20. I watched the other day too. Couldn't bear to see it while he was in office.

It is just completely mind-bloggling that that incompetent, stupid, arrogant little prick was elected to anything, let alone POTUS. Josh Brolin's portrayal was spot on. As were most of the others. Karl Rove, evil little prick, was played by a guy who looked alot like him but also looked like something Frankenstein cooked up in his lab. Scary stuff.

21. I'll probably get shit for this, but I enjoyed the film--it kinda provided

a view into how the little shit became what he was, and there was entertainment value as well.
