MTP - Why Did Gates Have Such A Problem Answering The ? - What's The Difference Between Bush & Obama
he struggled with the answer to that question and I think that millions of Americans watching (like myself)were screaming at the TV screen all kinds of differences - yet he couldn't verbalize it or had trouble trying to answer that. Why?

1. What would he gain from the old crowd if he answered?
What will he gain from Obama's crowd if he said what you wanted him to say?

Doesn't it stand out to you that David Gergen has not been accepted in either left or right column by serving us both? What is the long term benefit in further alienating these sides which will later use his words to cut him to shreds?

Republicans already think poorly of him for serving in a Democratic administration. Now he will take the slow plunge into a non status in political life. The best he can hope to do in the future, beyond David Gergen, is to become a work horse who cares about the results the military can achieve.

What do you think he can achieve by saying more?

2. umm keeping the support of the american people?
you know, not everyone considers themselves heavily political or even heavily associated with ANY party.. even if they did vote for said party in the last election...

so yes, it is important for the average american to hear the differences...because its what they voted for and frankly, id imagine the majority of them havent been paying attention to much since the election.

if he goes on TV and acts like theres no difference, then what exactly did those people vote for?

yah, you and I know the differences... but we stay involved in politics more than just november.

4. He has the American people support because Obama retained him from the Bush administration.
The people who only pay attention at election time weren't watching MTP anyway. Those people are taking Obama's word to heart: Don't look at the people whom I appoint. I set the agenda. It comes through me.

I think the corollary to that is: The only opinion or politics you need to worry about is mine as I set the policy for this government.

5. Honestly, I'd be surprised if he did answer the question.
Perhaps once he's out of office he'll talk about it, but while he's on the job, it's probably tacky for him to even be asked.

6. He is serving Obama and has not balked at any of Obama's goals
I have no problem with him. He wants to cut the over bloated military budget as well.
