Gregory - If you have a guest on who insists Obama wants a "French style" government.
Then you are not moderating a "serious" show. Seriously? This is what passes for intelligent dialogue these days?

This guy needs to be dumped. He's got Scarborough and Ford on for God's sake. This guy is one of those who "don't get it".

1. Plenty of serious people will try to make that assertion.
Not having them on Gregory's show will not change that. I think we have to deal with the ridiculous arguments they will put out. We can't just stick our fingers in our ears - that would be a mistake.

2. Why the prejudice against the French?
They have the best health care in the world. Their workers are the best treated.

21. "French" has become code for unAmerican.
Plenty of reasons for this can be cited, there are things that they do differently and some idiots find it offensive.

I personally love the French and their tendency to not copy America.

Remember the failure of French Disneyland.

Maybe this anti-corporatism pisses off the wrong people in America and they want to demonized them.

I love them, I hate Disneyland.

24. I wish we were getting some of that French style democracy.
Their government is afraid of its citizens like they're supposed to be instead of the other way around and they have the health care in the world. Plus who can look down their nose at the delicious flaky croissant?

Regards

4. Murphy and Scarborough were crying so much
I couldn't understand a word they said. As for Gregory, he's a terrible host. He used a lot of energy trashing the budget proposal and never once mentioned that the public, largely, supports its author!

11. Apparently Sweden, too, is part of the new "axis of evil"
It's hard to believe Republicans are using Western Europe, Sweden, France, etc. as failed states that we don't in anyway want to emulate. But then the geopolitically challenged, I guess, will swallow that big slice of baloney.

16. Exactly. At one time or another, my husband or I had free medical aid in Portugal, England, Holland,
and Belgium.

Not to mention the public transportation, public squares, etc.

Like you said, it is an out of ammo argument.

14. Do they know
France has a Conservative Government?

Of course as no European Conservative Party would ever allow 1/3 of its population to go without reasonable health care, even they must be socialist.

15. Having a "French style" government is bad how?
France has a pretty good government that is rightly scared of its workers rather than the other way around, like we seem to have. I see nothing wrong with striving to have a government that is more like the French.

23. Who said that "when good Americans die they go to Paris"?
Was it Oscar Wilde? Not sure, but it was said a long time ago by someone who knew very well the difference between life in America and life in France...

18. What's wrong with a French style government?
Edited on Sun Mar-01-09 11:56 PM by Mass
It is actually the governement in Europe who works in a manner most similar to the US governement . If Gregory had 2 cents of common sense, he would have explained that to Murphy.

Or is it that France is so far to the left os us that Sarkozy would be a moderate Dem here?

Edited on Mon Mar-02-09 01:00 PM by sunnybrook
You obviously didn't see the first part of the show when he was interviewing Gates and he asked the hard, complex, deeply substantive question "Is there a difference between Obama and Bush?"

At that point I thought, not only is he "not Tim Russert" he is not even the 10 year old boy that interviewed Biden. Honestly, I think that child should host MTP!
