Missouri Republicans push birth certificate questions to oppose 'tyranny'

Fifteen Republican members of the Missouri General Assembly have signed on to a state constitutional amendment that appears aimed at advancing the claims of the fringe movement that doubts President Barack Obama's eligibility to serve as president.

The language is contained in a proposed "voter’s bill of rights," which would serve "as a defense against corruption, fraud, and tyranny."

The proposed amendment states:

For candidates who are required by the Constitution of the United States to be natural born citizens, the secretary of state shall request an official copy of the candidate’s birth certificate. Other certifications, such as a certificate of live birth, shall not be accepted. Should any candidate fail to provide an official birth certificate within thirty days of the request by the secretary of state, his or her name shall not be placed on the ballot.

The Birthers, as they're known, have focused on the State of Hawaii's refusal to release the original of Obama's birth certificate, as opposed to official copies; Hawaii state law bars the release of the original.

State Rep. Robert Cooper wasn't immediately available to discuss the bill, which has drawn criticism on a local liberal blog.

Reminds me of one of my Obama all time favorites:

Obama: Republicans take pride in being ignorant

BEREA, Ohio (CNN) – For almost a week, John McCain and his campaign have been mocking Barack Obama’s comments to a voter last week in Missouri when he told her to one way to conserve energy is “making sure your tires are properly inflated.”

On Monday a top McCain advisor passed around tire gauges labeled “Obama’s Energy Plan” to reporters on the Arizona senator’s campaign plane — and the Republican National Committee says more are waiting for the Obama traveling press corps at Tuesday night’s hotel.

Obama shot back at a town hall in Ohio Tuesday afternoon, accusing them of lying about his energy plan and ignoring what experts say would reduce gas consumption between 3 and 4 percent.

“It's like these guys take pride in being ignorant,” Obama told a packed gym. “They think it’s funny that they're making fun of something that is actually true. They need to do their homework.”

2. And yet
Obama's Birth Certificate that he showed was not really different in form then my own which I got from the Saint Louis City Hall, having been born in Florrisant Mo.

So these guys have no reason to not know how full of crap they are.

"The language is contained in a proposed "voter’s bill of rights," which would serve "as a defense against corruption, fraud, and tyranny."

Once again the cons owe me another Irony meter.

3. That'll get struck down by the SCOTUS - Violates the 14th amendment

States provide what they provide. What Obama has states clearly that it is prima facie evidence in any court proceeding. Hawaii calls this a "Certificate of Live Birth", however, Missouri provides a "Birth Certificate" that, from a legal perspective, is no different from a Hawaii "Certificate of Live Birth".

Ergo, Hawaii is held to a different standard than Missouri in this proposed law and as such, it violates the 14th amendment of the constitution.

4. Is the entire Pub Party focused ONLY on looking stupid!
This topic is sooo foolish! Do they REALLY BELIEVE, after a 2+ year long campaign, the dirt miners of their own Party wouldn't have unearthed the truth about something as easy to prove as "place & time of birth"?

5. Our MO repubs are particularly useless
We're stuck with do-nothing repub majorities in both houses of our legislature, while the Governor and most other state officials are Democrats.
