I think that this is how it used to be, before the P was for primaries and then presidential.

1. Yes...that's right.
Hopefully that will also take the pressure off GD- so that general interest issue posts there don't automatically get moved to the lounge.

2. I'd also like to see a general political forum at DU.
I don't know if it would work to change presidential into political, since many of the people who post in presidential are more interested in posting presidential items, but maybe there could be a forum for just political discussion also?

3. There is a forum called Politics/Campaigns
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topics&forum=108

and another one called Democrats, and during the Primaries these were places to get more info and to debate without the rancor that dominated this one. However, most people do not regularly visit these forums, unless they find a post in the "Latest" or "Greatest" list.

5. We haven't had a Democratic president in DU's history until now
I think it's good we have this presidential forum. I don't understand the objection.

6. The objection is that some may not post here opinions or stories
about, say, how the Republicans are gearing toward mid term elections or how Congressional Democrats are flexing their muscles to show their independence.

7. Turning Politics/Campaigns into a "big forum" might be a solution
Then we could have both forums at the front end and members would participate more in Politics/Campaigns.
