Edited on Thu Mar-05-09 10:23 AM by Clio the Leo
Zach Wamp ... who lives about three miles from me ..... and who *I* do not sound like thank you very much! :)

... just called the President's health care plan "The next step toward socialism!" (He's being interviewed on MSNBC.)

Edited to summarize the rest of what he said: "The President wants to take health care away from seniors on Medicare and give to everyone including those who choose to 'go nekkid' and dont 'want' health care and the immigrants (read 'Mexicans') who are here illegally. Health care is a PRIVILEDGE and the President is trying to take that priviledge away from us." (paraphrased)

First question: Can I move to another state and live with one of y'all?

Second question: Is it officially POINTLESS to write him a letter? If not, any thoughts on what to say? I have no idea how to speak in "bubba" in order to be able to communicate with him or his staff effectivly.

The man is running for governor btw .... seriously ... who's gonna take me in? I can't cook or clean but I'm pretty cute!

9. go for it!
I think he effectively put an end to his political career. Those words are going to come back and haunt him when he campaigns for any office.

If you're writing him about his lack of Christian values, include some choice quotes from Christ. I don't know my Bible, but there's some good stuff in the New Testament that would leave that idiot speechless.

Come to think of it, we need to start using the Bible to fight these idiot conservatives .... maybe i better start a thread about it. :)

27. Clio, come join us up the road from you in Loudon County. It's gonna be
a rough time if he gets elected governor, and he stands a good chance of doing that.

Pretty depressing around here.

I kept a copy of the Letter to the Editor that was in the Knoxville News Sentinel on June 30, 2002.

"Where I grew up in Yankee country, people generally regarded the South as a region uniquely marked by demagoguery, anti-intellectualism and deep, deep ignorance. Judging by the antics of the state Legislature over the past three years, I'd say we got it just about right."

6. It's always important to write, just so the freaks know they don't have free rein.
And communicate with them in English. They're always whining about how it should be our official language, so maybe it's time they learn it.

Haven't sent it yet. Feel free to offer any suggestions. And note: I'm WAY more "churchy" in this letter than I would normally be in a political discourse. It's important to know your audience. ;)

Congratulations Mr. Wamp! This morning you managed to embarrass the entire Tennessee 3rd Congressional district with your diatribe on MSNBC. I must say I was shocked to hear those words coming from a man I presumed to have the needs of ALL of his constituents at heart.

The group of people who do not have health care because they cannot afford it are far more important than the "immigrants" and the "goin' nekkid" folks who opt out. We can debate whether health care is a right or a privilege, but what we CANNOT be debated is that, as Christians, we should work to take care of ALL of the people, and not just the privileged few.

I beg you to do the right thing and break away from your party to help the President make health care available for everyone.

As for your accusations of "socialism." With all due respect, your constituents appreciate intelligent debate and not Rush-ian scare tactics.

I pray to GOD that the next Governor of this great state is a man will uphold those Christian vales our area holds dear. A man who is truly interested caring for "the least of these" and not just those of who are more fortunate.

Acts 2:44-45 and Acts 4:34-37 .... or would you also consider that socialism sir?

And for those without a Bible handy, those verses read.....

"And all that believed were together, and had all things common; And sold their possessions and goods, and parted them to all men, as every man had need." Acts 2:44-45

"And the multitude of them that believed were of one heart and of one soul: neither said any of them that ought of the things which he possessed was his own; but they had all things common. And with great power gave the apostles witness of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus: and great grace was upon them all. Neither was there any among them that lacked: for as many as were possessors of lands or houses sold them, and brought the prices of the things that were sold, And laid them down at the apostles' feet: and distribution was made unto every man according as he had need." Act 4:32-35

I mean this man really made me feel like shit and if people really think this way what are we who don't have insurance. We're unworthy is what he's saying. My God. Thanks again, I hope there are other people from Tennessee horrified. I have to send this to Keith Olbermann.

13. Yeah I have one of the Idiots also in Tn
What is so amazing is the republican party think that it is a privilege to have health insurance not a right. That is the difference between democratics and republicans. I wonder how many republicans have medicare and social security now thanks to the democratic party. The republican party needs to stay in the minority for a very long, long time. You are right it doesn't help calling them because they don't care. Tn is going backwards now that the republics are taking over the state. I hope our fellow rednecks start wising up.

14. Socialism, the new buzz word for liberalism. They will try to make a dirty
word out of it, but it's time we took back the conversation and dominated it. Insurance companies getting corporate welfare from Uncle Sam is not socialism, it's Republicanism.

15. I'm so sorry! I have Jimmy Duncan.
He's marginally better than the Fightin' Wamp (at least Duncan didn't vote for the war).

I cannot believe our choices for governor, thus far, are the Fightin' Wamp and the Pilot oilman (and my mayor) Bill Haslaam. Have any Dems thrown their hat in, yet?

health care benefits 'socialized' medicine because they are provided by the government and paid for by the taxpayer? If he does, then I expect him to shoulder the entire cost of his (and his family's) health care immediately!

The Honorable John Lewis is my rep, but once you leave my district things go downhill fast. But on the bright side, at least my governor Sonny has shut up about not taking the stimulus money. Words cannot express how much I hate that man.

30. Does anyone know if his numbers are actually true?
He kept screaming that half the people without health care don't WANT health care and "go nekkid" like Clio said. He said it exactly the way that she spelled it, too. "Nekkid."

There's lots of data/info on the numbers of uninsured, but I ain't seen anything that has how many WANT to be uninsured. Did he just pull that "half" number out of his butt??
