Michelle Obama serves lunch at soup kitchen

WASHINGTON (Map, News) - The mystery server at lunch was ... Michelle Obama.

The first lady spent part of her lunch hour Thursday scooping mushroom risotto for homeless men and women at a soup kitchen a few blocks from the White House. Her presence was a surprise for the people there for lunch. The fruit salad also was made with donations of food from White House workers.

The first lady says times are tough and plenty of people need a helping hand. She says if someone cannot donate food or money, they should donate time instead.

The Miriam's Kitchen in Washington provides meals, case management services and housing support to nearly 250 men and women in Washington.

3. You know, Laura wasn't that bad
I know the jokes about her and all, but still Laura had her worthwhile issues that she stuck to and advanced.

Now a contrast can be definitely drawn between the husbands...

11. eh. I see no need to tear her down along with W Bush.
I've got no serious beef with Laura. She arguably did the best with the hand she was dealt, so to speak.

15. No biggie.
Perhaps "tearing down" was a tad overdramatic. My bad.

2. Leading by example.
The best kind of leadership there is -- inspiration.

Hopefully, this will give a lot of people the urge to similarly volunteer where help is needed, or to donate if physically helping is not an option.

6. Wow- actual walking-the-walk leadership.
As opposed to sitting-the-sit, or whatever Rush- head of the GOP, thinks he is doing.

8. This renders me
Verklempt and she's right..besides, helping others feels good. There's been times in my life when I appreciated the help of strangers and random acts of kindness.

Isn't that what they say Jesus did? So how does acting like an evil, mean spirited lying, sob coordinate with Jesus? Hmmmmmmmm?

12. She and her husband are decent, caring people
What a welcome breath of fresh air after eight years of self-centered and ignorant leadership.

14. Sweetheart vs asshole.
Our First Lady is the real deal. Her outreach is genuine, and not just for show. I love how she really pays attention, and listens to people like she did today with the folks at Miriam's.
