Politico disgusts again, now with a story about Prez Obama's over reliance on the teleprompter
Edited on Thu Mar-05-09 03:31 PM by Jennicut
I am not making this up. Slow news day Politico hacks? Perhaps he likes using technology more then other presidents. At least he sounds intelligent unlike that turd we had for 8 years.

Here is the story: http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0309/19663_Page2.html but don't bother clicking on it, its trash.

1. Politico has been nasty the past couple of days.
Usually there's only a few pro-pub stories, but lately, they're splashed all over the place.

2. They are trying hard to bring him down. I only go there to check on the Prez's
and Vp's schedules as they give a pretty good description of what will go on for the day. But the stories are horrendous.

3. This is very much a story Politico would do
But I noticed that the NYT also has a story on this up, is Politico linking to that one? I read it, and they quote fucking BRAD BLAKEMAN, among other people, and Bush's communication director. You would think that there was nothing going on in the world. I guess since the "Michelle Obama is going sleeveless!" topic has already been covered.

the NYT story is by Peter Baker. What has happened that they are both covering this stupid story? ALso, here is Blakeman's quote.

http://www.nytimes.com/2009/03/06/us/politics/06web-baker.html?partner=rss&emc=rss

"Yet Bradley A. Blakeman, a former White House aide to President George W. Bush and a Republican strategist, said the teleprompter makes Mr. Obama look robotic. “He is extremely scripted, and he is cautious to the max and afraid of gaffes,” Mr. Blakeman said. When answering questions without a script, Mr. Blakeman said, “his speech is very halted, and you can see him take a lot of time to think about what he’s going to say.”

31. Exactly! Such idiots!
Just because someone speaks continuously doesn't mean they are saying anything intelligent! Take Palin, for instance. Yeah, she can go on and on without a teleprompter. But what's she saying?

9. this is sarcastic, right?
I have a Straight Politics feed, and they have the Politico headlines on there (though I usually don't click on them, they have the feed for NYT, Washington Post, etc on there too), and Politico is definitely on "Grey watch" today. Seriously.

11. Politico can eat my shit!
It ain't about a teleprompter...it's about who wrote the words, and what those words were, and what the words meant, and how they were delivered that counts. Everything else is shit.

Did I mentioned that Politico can eat my shit?

He's doing just fine - I doubt that the Politico is doing him any damage - especially since hardly anyone outside of the 20001-20020 zip codes read it.

make it a huge distraction in the media. It will go beyond the Politico, as it has already (a headline on Yahoo).

Edit: On second thought maybe you're right. I went to Google news to see the top stories and it's all stuff about American Idol and Britney Spears. :eyes:

Besides, they might get too distracted by shiny objects such as American Idol and Britney Spears to be effective. :-)

21. God forbid we have a president who actually cares about what he says and makes sure he says it right
Funny thing, though, our president also does quite fine, thank you, when speaking off the cuff, as well. Just ask John McCain - Obama handed his butt to him extemporaneously before the election and is still doing it ("But then, I've never had my own helicopter before . . .")

And he has a whole TEAM of bodyguards!

Not only that, he hires OTHER PEOPLE to help him make decisions!

He also has a whole TEAM of people to clean his house! And another bunch just to COOK HIS FOOD!

Who the FUCK does this guy think he is!

26. What a whimp!
Oh, how I long for the days of REAL presidents like George W. Bush and Ronald Reagan who wrote their own speeches and delivered them perfectly without notes and cleaned their own houses and cooked their own meals and didn't need no stinkin' bodyguards cause they were too bad for anyone to mess with and if they did, they'd have sumpin waitin' for 'em.

28. Well, it was funny.................
The president’s teleprompter also elicited some uncomfortable laughter after he announced Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius as his choice for Health and Human Services secretary. “Kathy,” Obama said, turning the podium over to Sebelius, who waited at the microphone for an awkward few seconds while the teleprompters were lowered to the floor and the television cameras rolled.

30. As opposed to Ronnie Raygun? The man practically invented "teleprompter" in politics...
Edited on Fri Mar-06-09 12:17 PM by ddeclue
It is true that Obama does rely on the teleprompter a lot and is not as good off prompter as Bill Clinton.

As orators, both Clinton and Obama are extremely good on - prompter but I think that Clinton is and was by far the most natural off the cuff speaker we've ever had in the White House that I know of.

Lincoln was supposed to be excellent at improvising and they didn't have teleprompters then but it's hard to compare since no one alive today was alive then to compare the two.

One thing I DO know, Bobby "Brady" Jindal certainly relies far too much on the teleprompter and is a terrible off the cuff speaker.

On edit: "W" sucked as a public speaker 98% of the time either on OR off teleprompter. What scared me was the 2% of the time where he spoke in complete grammatically correct lucid sentences and sounded "reasonable"...made me wonder where the REAL W was and who this joker was speaking to me. There were some pretty good W impersonators out there and I often wondered if they brought one in from time to time to pinch hit for Jr. (John Morgan here in Orlando is a good W impersonator.)
