Obamas head to Europe

By POLITICO STAFF

The Obamas will tour the UK, France, Germany and the Czech Republic between March 31 and April 5, according to the White House.

Statement: "In the United Kingdom, the President will continue discussions on important bilateral and global issues with British leaders and work with other G-20 Leaders to address the global financial crisis at the London Summit. On April 3, the President will participate in bilateral programs with French President Nicolas Sarkozy and German Chancellor Angela Merkel. The President then looks forward to participating in NATO Summit events in Strasbourg, France, and Kehl, Germany, April 3-4, where leaders will celebrate 60 years of providing peace and security culminating in a unified Europe, discuss challenges and strategies for success of NATO’s mission in Afghanistan and other issues, and commit to preparing NATO to combat the new threats of the 21st century. The President will travel to Prague, Czech Republic, April 4-5 to meet with Czech officials and with leaders of European Union (EU) member states and the European Commission president to build a stronger partnership between the United States and the EU, one which will enable us to better confront our shared challenges together."

(True, there's absolutely no reason why he should visit Ireland, but still:

)

6. I think she's from there. He's visiting all of what she might describe as
"3rd rate European countries" but not stopping in his ancestral home to visit County O'Bama.

11. Given the fact that there are plenty of Irish who still have hard feelings about their
treatment by the British, and the fact that their "fourth green field" (Northern Ireland) is still in the hands of the 'enemy,' it's perhaps better that he not combine trips.

It's rather like having lunch with the Hatfields, and dinner with the McCoys.

24. Good for you!
Though I know more than a few who will neither forgive, nor forget. And who won't rest until Ireland is Ireland in it's entirety!

I suppose being pegged to the Euro instead of the pound helps, too!

25. Bummer. He'll have time someday, I'm sure.
Somebody should send me there so I can visit my cousins. I've never met them, or anything...but if my dad's going to be buried there someday, I should probably see where.
