Comment by Marine on YouTube

Hi all,

I know freedom of speech is to be cherished, but I found it kind of strange that a serving member of the US Marine Corps (who gives what appears to be his real name and location on his channel - I Googled him and he exists) should leave a comment like this on a pro-Obama YouTube video:

"Haha! Yall stupid fucks. Hes a goddamn communist. This country is going down the drown faster than ever because of him. By 2010, early 11, we'll be divided into different nations. Civil War is waiting to happen."

It's my video, so I blocked the comment - these freaks have plenty of soapboxes elsewhere.

True, he's not actually making any threat (unless "Civil War is waiting to happen" can be interpreted that way?), but it just struck me as odd that an indentifiable serving member of the Army felt it was okay to post such an opinion about his Commander in Chief.

What do you think?

PS I'm not sure if I should provide a link to his channel??

When I googled him he came up on a Florida 'LOCAL BUSINESS TAX ACCOUNT LIST' website - with his name, address and phone number! How crazy is that, that a serving member of the army has such personal details posted on the internet? For security reasons surely this shouldn't happen? (Much as I loathe the guy).

4. The marine isn't getting arrested. The account holder has the right to block comments.

Just like a store has the right to deny service to someone not wearing shoes.

The private property here is virtual. Its owned by youtube who then negotiates the terms with its users.

But you know all of this already, right?

The marine's comment is so stupid that the OP is doing him a favor by taking it off of the public record.

Freedom of speech is great, but with such a right - in my opinion - comes responsibilities. I draw the line at anti-Semitic, racist, homophobic bile, etc. If that's a denial of freedom of speech, so be it.
