So I was given a Rolex watch for a present
From my boss as an award. A $5,000 fucking watch to a guy who never wears any jewelry, let alone a watch.

One of the other VP's called me up laughing saying, "Rufus Dog, you don't wear jewelry, why the fuck did he give you a watch?" I laughed and told him it meant a lot to the giver and is touching.

You see, the giver loves watches and thought it would be the coolest thing ever. So now I have a 5k watch that sits in a drawer, and even though I left the company, a life long friend in the giver.

So put the fucking threads in the drawer about 25 movies, you are missing the bigger picture.

1. People think the dvd's are a non gift because they are used to
downloading movies off bittorrent, or burning copies of their netflix rentals. I suppose they wanted them to rip off a chunk of some historical artifact and make a tie tack or something out of it. It's a non issue. Maybe when the British Museum returns the Parthenon Marbles, I'll care.

Though, to tell the truth, if I were the one picking DVDs/Blu-Rays, I would have suggested gifting the entire Criterion Collection. Though, I suppose they wanted them to be American movies.

2. Apparently the people worried about 'the gift' are fresh out of things to worry about.
I'll be happy to send them a couple dozen things to fret about. Just lemme know.

4. How about a chunk of stone from the original WH foundation
that's still singed from the fire the Brits set in 1812?

8. Here is where I disagree with you...
disclaimer: I kind of think the gift was crappy but I also don't think it's all that important

The Rolex watch was a classy, expensive gift and the gift-giver probably imagined you being thrilled by owning an expensive rolex. I know when I give gifts, I like to think about how the other person will receive and enjoy them. Your boss might have thought you didn't own a watch and that's why you didn't wear one...who knows? Ultimately, a rolex is a reeeeaaally nice gift.

What if instead of a Rolex, you had been given a gift that your boss liked...for example...like his favorite book written in Chinese...even if it was a collector's item...would you kind of be stunned? Hmmmm...you don't speak chinese? That sucks.

See, the DVD set that Obama gave was in NTSC and not PAL, so it will be tough to watch the set.

DVDs aren't really very...I don't know what word to use. I give my mom DVD sets as her gift from her grandkids each year so she has something to open from them.

What if your boss realized that you had a birthday and didn't have anything so he ran down to the company gift shop and picked up a hat for you with the company logo on it or something? It would also kind of seem like an afterthought or not a nice gift.

We'd all probably be chuckling about that too.

If Bush had given the same gifts, I would be howling with outrage over it...but...since it is Obama  I am honestly willing to overlook it. Privately, I will tell you that I think whomever picked out the gifts could have done a better job...but hey...what's done is done and we move on.

11. Nice gift. Nice boss. Start wearing the watch.
I used to hate wearing a watch. I got a beautiful Omega for Christmas a couple of years ago. Quite expensive. I love it. Trust me. You will, and should, wear it with pride. It was a beautiful gift.
The people who are bashing the watch are using it as a symbol of wealth and are probably either jealous or are the one's who bash anyone who doesn't obey their self-imposed poverty creed. (all the while shopping at Whole Foods).
