Hiss-Spit...MEEOOOWWW! McCain's daughter to Ann Coulter: You turn me off, you extremist train wreck
I love me an intra-party GOP cat fight. Read excerpts of this blog post written today by Meghan McCain:

I am not suggesting that extreme conservatism wasn't once popular, nor am I suggesting I should in any way be any kind of voice for the party. I have been a Republican for less than a year. Still, even after losing the election, I find myself more drawn to GOP ideals and wanting to fight for the party’s resurgence. And if figureheads like Ann Coulter are turning me off, then they are definitely turning off other members of my generation as well. She does appeal to the most extreme members of the Republican Party—but they are dying off, becoming less and less relevant to the party structure as a whole. I think most people my age are like me in that we all don’t believe in every single ideal of each party specifically. The GOP should be happy to have any young supporters whatsoever, even if they do digress some from traditional Republican thinking.

(...)

More so than my ideological differences with Ann Coulter, I don’t like her demeanor. I have never been a person who was attracted to hate or negativity. I don’t believe in scare tactics and would never condone or encourage anyone calling President Obama a Muslim. But controversy sells and Coulter is nothing if not controversial. Everything about her is extreme: her voice, her interview tactics, and especially the public statements she makes about liberals. Maybe her popularity stems from the fact that watching her is sometimes like watching a train wreck.

Not sure how old she is but what a time to switch party's huh? Daddy must be the reason.

She's right btw, Coulter is a hateful evil bitch.

4. I think she officially registered as a Republican for father's day
Edited on Mon Mar-09-09 10:07 AM by ErinBerin84
Was she an independent before? I know she voted for Kerry.

For her credit, I remember her looking really unhappy at some of those later rallies. Anne Coulter is kind of a safe target though. It would be great if she took on Hannity or something, I don't find them to be that much different. Eh. Boring. Even Elisabeth from THe View has said she hates Anne Coulter, so this doesn't particularly impress me.

election.

10. I'd love it if this were the new face of the Republican Party.
Then I wouldn't be so terrified at the prospect of them in power. I think it might be. The younger generation is a lot more to the left than we are. My daughter and nephew are a bit more left than I am, and I notice the kids of conservatives are far more left than they are. I rather like Meghan McCain. And the Bush girls. (Absolutely can't stand their parents, or more accurately, fathers, though).

reasonable than he is.

They are still REALLY bad, but not as bad.

edited to add: It could simply be because they are of mixed race and my father is white, so their experience has been different to his and has softened them.

Meghan McCain voted for Kerry in 2004 so, before her father's run, she was at least open to Democratic ideas.

12. I've long suspected that
the figures like Ann Coulter, Hannity, Limbaugh, etc., exist for one main reason...

to be so outrageous and nasty that they make the less outrageous and nasty (but still somewhat batshit insane) Republicans look good in comparison.

They're putting themselves out there as "bait", sort of. The sacrificial lambs...

IMO

;)

24. That is their function
I am sure. While these creeps are really the poster children for the GOP they never run for anything, but the GOP always manages to find room for them on the stage.

Do any of them call out Coulter or Hannity? Nope. But they share whatever warped vision they have for America.

However the rank (and I do mean RANK) and file Republicans are rarely that outrageous unless they come from very very safe districts.

It's not so much that Coulter and her ilk are sacrificial lambs as much as they are part of the whole bait and switch game. People can hate Coulter but will still vote for someone who shares her views but is only more polite about it.

I will be curious as to how Coulter responds to Meghan McCain. I don't recall that Coulter was that big of a fan of John McCain so she may respond with snark. Then again Meghan may get a phone call and be told to make nice with Ann. If Meghan apologizes then we know that phone call was made.

14.  I refuse to attack Meghan because she is right and lots of kids are less conservative then their
parents. I know I sure am. Meghan is only what, 23? I think she is less conservative then her Dad. I always thought the Bush girls sure were. These kids gets forced into supporting dear old Mom or Dad all the time. And Coulter, like Rush, is bad for the Repub Party. Meghan may be a bit of a spoiled brat but she knows the Repubs are not appealing to younger people at all.

That she would support any one with an R next to their name in 2012. Now she is deciding that the far far right doesn't appeal to her? Me thinks she needs to read her previous blog entries before she posts a new one.

Characterizing a disagreement between 2 women as a "catfight" is not cool.

30. No!
There is plenty to be offended by. Surely you know this, as you almost forgot to be offended before coming back to advertise how offended you were.

But let's take a look at all the offensive stuff in that article.

The title is "My Beef With Ann Coulter." Why is "beef" synonymous with "problem"? It's offensive to poor cows that can't speak for themselves. Offended!

One line states: "But being a Republican is about as edgy as Donny Osmond." Clearly this is a slap at Osmonds. Or Mormons! Or people who aren't edgy. Offended!

Another: "But no matter how much you or I disagree with her, the cult that follows Coulter cannot be denied." This denigrates cults! They are few in number. Stand up for them. Offended!

NOTE: There's no such thing as a phrase that is intended to do nothing but convey humor. We need a completely humorless society. Everyone register every possible offense with Hello_Kitty and let's start a crusade.

(Sorry to any victims of the crusades. Really.)

31. Yeah, some people get so offended by watermelon jokes referencing black people.
They need to get over it.

As for describing disagreements between women as "catfights" why that's just plain good fun! After all, it's not like women are real people who are capable of complex thoughts or anything.

34. Yeah.
That's EXACTLY what the "catfight" term means. Someone who says that is actually saying (as you suggest) that the women are not real people, but actually felines. Brilliant.

You're boring now, so I'll move along, but I hope you feel better now that you forgot to be offended but later remembered to be offended and came back to advertise the fact that you were offended. You're a pioneer* in The Struggle.

*(No offense to people who rode across the country in covered wagons discovering new land!)
