A White House spokesman responds that it was not a pick, it was a scratch.

CNBC has a story on stand by in the event the DOW goes up, which attributes a rise in the DOW to Boehner parting his hair, and McCain having his monthly bowel movement.

8. Very true. It is indeed possible for Wall Street to tank while Main Street is booming.

Granted, that isn't what's happening now - everyone's in the toilet right now, but it did happen, at least to some extent, during the Great Depression.

Thanks to the New Deal, unemployment had subsided by 1936 or so, people were working again, and folks on Main Street were starting to pick up the pieces after that financial hurricane.

Wall Street was still in the tank for a long time, and the old-school robber-barons were pissed because they lost a whole bunch of power.
