Coleman warns supporters their credit card data likely breached
Norm Coleman's Senate campaign made a major and serious announcement today regarding all supporters who donated to the campaign. The Hill says campaign officials announced Wednesday that their private information was likely breached and they are suggesting contributors cancel their credit cards.

A wikileaks.org email address emailed Coleman supporters Tuesday night claiming they had their personal information and they were going to post it online. They pointed to this spreadsheet with personal data. The campaign suspected a breach in January and had contacted authorities who concluded there was no evidence of a leak.

I dislike Coleman as much as anybody, but this is just wrong. If you have any friends or family who contributed to his campaign, forward this on to them.

1. And instead of taking the blame for their lousy security
Coleman's campaign fires up the blamethrower and decides to infer the breach was a "political dirty trick".

3. That's Coleman for you.
Even when you're inclined to feel sort of sorry for his campaign, they have to make it as difficult as possible.

4. Why were they holding onto the SSNs. Aren't they suppose to hold onto the SSN only
long enough to approve the transaction?

At the very least private info should be kept separate from their main database and encrypt the database so it couldn't be read by unauthorized users.

6. This isn't much different than the many millions of SSNs stolen on two separate incidents.
