Eva Longoria Wants Immigration Reform
Source: TCC

The Desperate Housewives star said to FOX Pop Tarts that there needs to be reform in Mexican immigration, according to gossipgirls.com. Longoria said she will make sure to play an active role with the issue.

“I think definitely immigration will be addressed and I will be there to make sure that we’re protected,” she said. She continued by saying that the United States should focus more on their neighbors down south than overseas.

“It is unfortunate that we spend so much time as Americans all over the world, and we need to really focus a lot of our energy on our front porch which is Mexico,” Longoria said. She not only wants to address the issues of immigration, but also bring attention to “the poverty and illiteracy and the educational programs in Mexico.”

1. Did she forget that Tony Parker, her husband, is an immigrant?

His dad is an African-American and his mom is Dutch.

Therefore, he is part American (thru his father) and French because he was raised in France.

2. Wouldn't it be better to give aid and support to Latin America?
To help them get on their own feet, than to let more people from there come here to pick lettuce and tomatoes for gringo assholes? I live in Arizona and many of the pro-immigration so-called "progressives" I encounter want a free flow of immigrants because they don't want to clean their own houses, do their own yardwork, or pay a premium for produce. They really enjoy having a cheap labor force to do those "jobs Americans won't do", while patting themselves on the back for being oh-so-multi-cultural. :puke:

3. She may not be advocating for open border but for immigrants living in America
maintaining them in the shadows makes them more vulnerable to exploitation

4. I agree with that.
I'm for full amnesty. Anyone who is already here should get a path to citizenship. But no ongoing quasi-indentured servitude "guest worker" programs.

6. I'm not sure about full amnesty....
mostly because:
A: The border remains porous.
and
B: Until the border is sealed the incentive then becomes to beat it.And that entails exploitation, danger, and economic hardship to competing native born workers.

This is one of the subjects I'm highly conflicted about. I just can't find a reasonable approach. Full amnesty seems like it fuels further illegal immigration but anything less seems punitive to people I tend to like and sympathize with. So if you have a comprehensive approach I'd love to hear it. I'm looking for a holy grail...balance between all needs with no exploitation of folks who could be great citizens...

7. Maybe if undocumented immigrants could prove they've been here 5 years or more.
I don't want to punish people who are here but at the same time I don't want to give exploiter assholes a steady stream of slaves "guest workers". Maybe the answer lies in passing the EFCA and a federal living wage law. If every low wage dickwad HAD to pay $15 an hour maybe more Americans would want to do "jobs that Americans won't do". And if employers still needed foreign workers, so be it. But at least then we'd know that the much vaunted "labor shortage" is legitimate.

8. Yes
I truly am concerned about policy. At some point we will also have to address Mexico (and all southern lands). As I said I LIKE Mexicans and want fairness and citizenship....if only because legal citizens don't have to be scabs. My best day will be when the ICE pull in 3 buses and take away the entire management of a meat packing plant.

I sit and just picture that...the day that happens the country will be on the path to healing itself.

21. Um, doesn't she actually say that in the article?
At least that's how I interpreted the comments about poverty and illiteracy in Mexico, though the article was fairly vague in its wording, so it's hard to be sure.

9. With overpopulation happening in impoverished communities
I don't see any way to stop illegal immigration ever unless extreme measures are taken, and they won't be. What these people need is contraception and a place to work and earn money. Unfortunately many of them are Catholic and do not believe in birth control, or they can't afford it. What's cheaper? Building a ridiculous fence that won't work, or putting some tax dollars into condoms and sex education south of the border? The Catholic Church's policy of no contraception is abominable.

10. Just start confiscation of businesses that employ undocumented workers
take the bosses' houses, cars, bank accounts (like they do for drug dealers)..

Pretty soon the jobs would dry up, and there would be no need for people to come here to work "under the table"..

as long as businesses are allowed to hire people who will work cheaply, they will do it.. It's money in their pockets

11. ok I see your point but even that presents problems during enforcement.
Let's say a man comes to my house and offers to mow my lawn for $10. If he's illegal do I get punished? What if an employer gets duped by fraudulent documents? I could imagine that in some cases the illegality could be transparent, but in others not so much.

13. Have no problems going after the employers
but at the same time deport all of their undocument workers immediately. Amend the Constitution to alter the wording of Section I of the XIV Amendment granting citizenship to anyone born here. Change the language to require at least one parent must be an american citizen. JMO

18. a lot of jobs would be lost
there would be no need for private concentration camps and border patrol officers

While the nation's economy flounders, business is booming for The GEO Group Inc., a private prison firm that is paid millions by the U.S. government to detain undocumented immigrants and other federal inmates. In the last year and a half, GEO announced plans to add a total of at least 3,925 new beds to immigration lockups in five locations. The Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency and the U.S. Marshals Service, which hire the company, will fill the beds with inmates awaiting court and deportation proceedings.

The Border Patrol has met its goal of hiring 6,000 new agents in two years

12. Eva Longoria Wants Immigration Reform
A lot of people talk about it. Bu no one is willing to do anything about it on either side of the issue. The pro-immigration people are too afraid of being labeled as un-American if they want to grant some kind of amnesty. The anti-immigrant people are too afraid of being labeled as racists to suggest a massive bus, air, and train system for somehow moving 30 million or more people south of the border somehow. I think it could be done by next Tuesday. So what's left? Funnel millions or (more likely) billions down to central and south America to make things better for them? Or spend our money here to make life better for us here.
Honestly, I don't know what the situation is here. Pretty soon all of our decent jobs are going to be over there in India, so we won't have as many illegals in this country. Some of us might be trying to go over there to get something. I think there needs to be a fundamental shift in the way we live our lives. This race to the bottom crap has got to stop somewhere. WE need more in this country than fast food and gas stations.
