5. Wow -- almost as motherly as Barbara Bush
:sarcasm: :sarcasm: :sarcasm:

For those too young to remember, when Bsuh Sr. was in the White House, there was a massive propaganda effort to portray Barbara as the National Mother, all kind and cuddly.

But, as a former White House Staffer once said: "If you could scrape the venom off her tongue, you could develop an antidote for Ricin."

Michelle is a wonderful role model -- probably the most down to earth first lady we've had in my lifetime.

7. WHat I love most about Michelle
is when Obama goes off on some politician-speak riff and you can see her in the background rolling her eyes and giving him that "cut the shit" look.

11. All well and good, but I have a Mom already.
No offense to Michelle Obama, but I love and respect my Mom oh, about a thousand brazillion times more than I do a First Lady.

My Mom would have been a great First Lady as well. She might have been, if my Dad wasn't such a butthead.

12. That pic with the elderly white haired woman touched me so much because it could have been my mother
Edited on Fri Mar-13-09 02:22 PM by CTyankee
before she died at age 94 in 2005. Like you, I so loved and respected my belove d mother. And I think Michelle knows how you feel and doesn't think she could usurp anyone's mom. But I believe that her emotion is genuine and she is setting an example, which is what First Ladies are supposed to do.

13. My post was pretty much tongue in cheek, but I'm so very sorry for your loss.
You seem to have been lucky though in that she lived such a long life. I could only hope that my mom would live so long.

I meant no offense to MO. I'm sure she's genuine, and I agree that setting a good example is important, and she does it very well.

14. Oh, I know you meant well! You really love your mother and it shows.
When I look at my grandkids I think of the love legacy that we as parents bequeathe to children. I really like to think that I was a loving parent because of my mother's example, and that my kids are good parents of their kids because of it.
