It's Bush's deficit, not Obama's

Dean Baker has this post at his blog. The graph is worth clicking on the link. The CBO clearly shows just how big the Bush deficit is compared to whatever Obama is adding to it. -WB

It's Bush's Deficit, the Republicans Are Not Telling the Truth

As a general rule, politicians will say anything that they think they can get away with which will advance their agenda. Truth is not usually a major consideration. That applies to politicians of both political parties.

In principle, the media places a limit on politicians' ability to lie, since calling your opponent a murder is likely to backfire if the headline reads "Senator Fabricates Murder Story."

Unfortunately, budget reporters largely fall down on the job. Hence we get the headline "Obama's New Tack: Blaming Bush," with the subhead "Points to 'Inherited' Economy."

Okay, let's get serious folks. It is not a "inherited" economy, it is a inherited economy. There is not dispute that the economy was in horrible shape at the time that President Obama took office. Anyone who tries to say otherwise is simply lying.

Furthermore, the overwhelming majority of the budget deficit that the Republicans are now complaining about is directly attributable to President Bush's policies. The additional deficit for 2009 that it is attributable to President Obama's efforts to fix the disastrous economy that he was handed by President Bush is trivial in comparison as can be clearly seen. (The projections are taken from CBO).

1. Gong into this it was said President Obama will have the cleaning up to do.
That was his job for his term as President. This was from the same ones that are now bashing him about this mess being his own mess.

That article is lying, it accounts for 1.375 trillion of the deficit, wheres the last 375 billion. The budget deficit this year is 1.75 trillion this year, not 1.375 trillion like that graph is showing. Likewise, it doesn't cite a report, just says CBO projections (while also failing to mention that the CBO also said the recession will end before the end of this year even without the stimulous package). Lastly, it fails to mention the $600 billion at least that Obama cut from the budget to account for the less then $200 billion growth in the budget despite the almost $800 billion stimulous package (not to mention other bailouts that are coming. So its just really confusing.
