Cantor lies about W's deficits, while Gregory sits with his thumb
in one orifice or another. The GOP's congressional mouthpiece attributed his votes for the Bush deficit-ridden budgets to the necessity of supporting the troops in war time. David, of course, failed to point out that W's Iraq debacle was held off the books so was not part of the budget.
This very small vignette speaks volumes of what is killing our democracy. The RW has learned that lies will not be exposed, so routinely and recklessly they have become the party of fantasy. The Fourth Estate is so unmoored from journalistic fundamentals, it not only accept being lied to its face but acts as a transmission belt injecting bad information into the body politic.
We are on the path to answering in the negative Franklin' troubled musing whether we will be able to keep our republican form of government. He knew that an informed electorate was essential to a democracy. A party addicted to fantasy complemented by our inept news media was on full display this am on MTP.

9. I switch back and forth between it and This Week, depending
on who is pissing me off the more at that point. I think Professor George Will's droning drove me to the JackWelch/GE political hour. Gregory is so inept that I believe he may well end up destroying the MTP brand.

19. Its not the media's responsibility to fight our battles
Gregory should have said something. But on the other hand, he should be about leting people express themselves the way they want to. Its up to the opposition (meaning our side) to provide opposing views.

20.  This was not a matter of political philosophy, this was a lie.
It used to be that the worst thing you could do with a reporter was to lose your credibility by getting caught in a misrepresentation. Cantor's statement was an unvarnished, patently inaccurate lie. Had Gregory pointed that out he would not have been taking our side, he would have been taking the side of truth.

2. Gregory attacked Romer practically and gave Cantor a big,
gentle pass. Yes, it's very obvious.

4. Yep. Let's say the wars cost $1T.
Chimp racked up $6T+ in deficits.

Good ole McGregory (speaking of which, he had more clips of McSame than of Obama).

5. it's no surprise. not any different than any other week. nor is it different
than most other MSM outlets. I do not watch that show. I guess it's a good thing we have the internet to get our information, because we damn well don't get it from the tv mouthpieces. do they even know what journalism is??? did they ever learn what their job is supposed to be??

6. This is the email I sent to them..
I understand where your political proclivity lays,(it was my greatest unease when it was announced you would take over Meet the Press). We are all human, no one can be 100% unaligned in their statements, but, you have got to do a better job, of unlinking yourself from your personal politics and stay in the center, or you will do great damage to Meet the Press. You are not the Daily Show or Glen Beck, you do not have that kind of freedom.

12.  I sent the info to Huffpost and Media Matters.
I do think there is value in letting these clowns know we are watching them I love your reference to Glen Beck. It ought to shame anyone to be included in his loony company.

Gregory let Cantor play the debunked "rail from Disneyland to Vegas" card again without correcting him.

13. The ratings are plummeting...
I am not sure if anyone under the age of 70 even watches the Sunday shows...I gave up a long time ago. The MSM and the GOP cannot stop digging bigger holes for themselves and plunging into deeper irrelevance. It is like the folks who were claiming the world is still flat, even after Columbus and the Portuguese proved the world was indeed round.

Go outside, do some yard work, lay with your kids, read a book, go online, just give up the MSM...

18.  I know what you say is true and deserved. What scares me
is the desertion of civic responsibility by almost the entire Fourth Estate and the resulting rise in ignorance and disunity. It is highly unlikely that Liberal philosophy will fare better that reactionary thought in a land where the great majority of citizens ignore public policy issues while those that care are locked into news sources which act as political echo chambers rather than channels of free and varied discourse.

14. Which is why....
I didn't even bother watching ANY of the Sunday shows...I looked at the guests list and said hmmm who needs it. The only one I would think who was worth watching was Barney Frank on Fox news-unfortunately I refuse to click on that channel so as NOT to give them a rating.

16. Very well stated, chieftain.
The absurd farce that we jokingly refer to as "news", has become little more than a propaganda vehicle for the message pushers.

22.  That's is exactly the point. By abandoning their journalistic
responsibilities, they have taught a whole generation that there is no downside to dissembling. What started as spin has transformed into serial falsifying. This cannot be good for our democracy.
