The world that never was.
The alliance between the GOP and the MSM has contributed to the fact that a significant segment of the US believe one or all of the following:

FDR caused the Great Depression
Iraq sponsored the 9/11 attacks
Husein's WMD are now in Syria
Obama is a socialist
Obama is a Muslim
Obama is a terrorist
Obama promised to end all earmarks
W protected the US from attacks
The GOP is the party of fiscal responsibility
The GOP is the party of moral rectitude
The GOP supports our men and women in uniform
Gay marriage will undermine my relationship with my wife
Poor minorities caused the worst economic debacle in a century
No market regulation guarantees prosperity
Companies will adequately police themselves
US union members should be willing to work for 3rd world wages

I know the list is endless. My point is not just that the RW lies but more importantly our overpaid news media perpetuate these myths. Sometimes by actively embracing them, more often by transmitting the blatant untruths without comment or caveat.

1. That Iraq sponsored the 9/11 attacks is utterly laughable and yet people still
believe that. The MSM does not do their job and comedians like Jon Stewart have to do it for them. A sad state of things.

2.  I completely agree. You would think that Stewart's example
would shame them, but the pull of Welch/Murdoch money trumps ethics for most of them.

3. The sad thing is my own parents watch Faux and voted for Bush
And also believed the terrorists were in Iraq before we were there. I cannot knock any sense into them but they know I am a full blown Dem and at 33 I will not be changing. My brother and I both rejected conservatism by the time we were in high school.

4.  I was lucky enough to be born into an FDR/HST loving
family. I admire those who were brought up in conservative philosophy and have rejected it. God knows the Democratic Party is far from perfect, but it is the vehicle most likely to advance economic rationality, social justice and a diplomatic approach to the world.

5. Yeah, years of listening to Rush in the car with my Dad almost drove me to the brink
My parents are nice people and wonderful to my children. They do not force their beliefs on me and my brother and would not do that to my kids when they get older. They treat other people with kindness and are very generous when others need help. They just happen to believe in some pretty stupid stuff.
