Perry urges stimulus critics to be in Arlington Saturday
The morning Hours after rejecting some of the stimulus funds allocated to Texas, Gov. Rick Perry sent an automated message to some local supporters' phones: the fight isn't over.

It's just the latest salvo in Perry's campaign against the federal government's response to the economic tailspin, which included his launch of an anti-bailout web site a few weeks ago.

Beginning with a "Howdy, this is Gov. Rick Perry," the governor's latest robocall encourages those who think like him on this issue to show up and testify at a special hearing at the University of Texas at Arlington tomorrow.

"I'm sorry I missed you but this Saturday you will have the chance to voice your frustration about the federal stimulus and the heavy cost it's going to place on Texans," Perry says in the call.

The Select Federal Economic Stabilization Funding Committee is holding the UT-A hearing to accept public testimony on the stimulus money. Local lawmakers are expected to attend. The committee was created to provide oversight on the billions coming to Texas from the stimulus package.

Take a listen to the robocall here:

1. And at this point, we need to keep track of recovery STATE BY STATE...
And look at how SC, LA, and TX recover compared to the other stimulus-accepting states.

"Okay, y'all, this is my favorite story of the year.
As I'm sure you've heard, Texas Governor Rick Perry has rejected $550 million in unemployment benefits from the stimulus package.
But, what you probably haven't heard is that he held his press conference in front of a high-end hardware and retail shop here in Houston named Bering's.

Gov. Rick Perry will announce today that he is blocking the state from accepting $550 million for expanded unemployment benefits as part of the federal stimulus package.

With an upscale Houston hardware store as his backdrop, he will paint the expansion as a burden on small business.

Bering's is not your typical hardware store. They sell $110 reed diffusers and $144 artichoke sets. It's a hardware store in the same vein that Neiman Marcus is a five and dime store.

Now for the punch line ----

Bering's sells a line of high-end pastry serving utensils. They call it (THIS IS NOT A JOKE) the "Let Them Eat Cake" Line of Fine Utensils. Click here to see for yourself. You know the drill - click the little one to get the big one of a screen shot."

4. I wonder
Just how many people in Texas that aren't making over $200,000 a year are really against the stimulus package? I wonder how many people in this country that are not making $200,000 a year, or who are simply brain dead republican zombies, are against it?

It may sound good to the republican party, the idiots in D.C., but it will be turned on them come election time if they didn't take the money and their state ends up further in debt with more people on unemployment, and more who can no longer get unemployment because those idiots refused the money! Those who plan on running for election in 2012 are really taking a chance with this. It may look good politically for their goal to run, but it sure as hell won't look good when Obama gets credit for turning things around and they get credit for being "idiots"!

5. They have $11 million in the state coffers sitting untouched
I think Texas needs someone besides the Gov Goodhair regime to be put in charge of any stim money...they can't even handle the money they have **now**...please don't give them anymore without proper adult supervision.

http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dws/news/localnews/stories/031509dntexstripclubs.369be93.html

The $11.2 million that Texas gentlemen's clubs have paid the state in the last year is supposed to be funding sexual assault services for dozens of Texas counties that don't have any, along with some health insurance programs.

Instead, the money is sitting in state coffers, hamstrung by a First Amendment lawsuit that pits the state against its most prominent sexually oriented businesses.

Though the Texas Comptroller's Office continues to collect the $5-per-patron fee, which the Legislature approved in 2007, only some of the topless clubs are paying it – leading to allegations of unfair play within the industry. The $11.2 million taken in so far is well short of the $40 million that legislative analysts projected in the law's first year.

(snip)

Meanwhile, Rep. Ellen Cohen, who authored the 2007 bill, is pushing a new version this year. She says the revised measure – which drops the cover charge to $3 and sends all proceeds to sexual assault programs – resolves potential constitutional issues in the first bill. Lawyers for the topless clubs say they'll take it to court, too.

6. There is no bigger ass than Rick Perry.
He has the Texas taxpayers paying $9900 a month for the home he and his wife are staying in due to arson at the Governor's Mansion. Arson that would not have happened had the security team been doing their job.

He can stand on the steps of the Capitol and give a speech about how he supports a Senate and House bill that will require women who decide to have an abortion to undergo a mandatory ultrasound (in which the doctor will have to point out organs and other development) and listen to the baby's heartbeat but he denies stimulus $$ to help the unemployed.

Our unemployment fund is reported to be $800 million IN THE HOLE this fall. He says he is denying the stim money because of the strings attached but on 3/10/2009 Republican Representive Tan Parker has submitted a bill that will change the unemployment laws so that Texas could get the stim. money but he put a sunset clause that states when the federal $$ from the bill that Pres. Obama runs out for unemployment, Texas will revert back to the old unemployment rules.

With a bill like that sitting in the Legislature, there is no reason to deny funds except for political gain. I have had issues with him for other reasons but this is ridiculous and he should be ashamed (but I know he is not).
