I should also add - the problem is also the corporate media, which has been pushing for the bailouts.

The AIG executives are just doing what comes naturally of them -- wallowing in an ocean-full of greed. But it was Congress which gave them the countless billions to pay their "poor" counter-parties. And it's Obama who's continuing Bush's policy of pursuing the bailouts.

Thanks goodness for the few Democrats in Congress who were against the bailouts: at least our party isn't completely under the banks' beck-and-call.

2. Obama's going to stop the bailouts?
Edited on Tue Mar-17-09 04:10 PM by brentspeak
I'm talking about the bailouts, not the designed-to-be-a-distraction bonuses. We already know he's going to stop those -- but the bonuses are hardly the main issue.

3. Criminality and corruption are excusable, as long as they come naturally?
:eyes:

Whatever.

4. I didn't excuse anything
And I amended my title head to make my point clearer: the people responsible for the bailouts are not the AIG executives; it's the government who gave them the bailouts.

5. Ssshhhhhhh. Quiet!
You are not supposed to notice that, even on DU.

Now look back over there at those greedy AIG middle management scum.

6. Obama was given a grenede with the pin pulled out
Either continue to bailout the banks or let it turn into a depression on your watch.

9. At this point, only a sucker could believe they'll be a depression unless the banks are paid-off

12. How is discussing the economic/political system negative?
Brentspeak is only pointing out the obvious and from there we extrapolate on how to best fix it. I'm for scrapping Capitalism, some want to try regulation, others just want to get Glenn Beck off their teevee. I think you sort of missed the point of the thread.

10. I remember being told that ....

$7,000,000,000 in earmarks was too small to worry about.
Now I supposed to freak out over $168,000,000.

Some people think we're just too stupid to follow the money.

13. Some of us called it from the get go, but there was much intentional
confusion with the initial AIG and bank bailouts. We need to remember Bush was still in office and we don't know what kind of crap he was pulling behind the scenes (some have suggested this was a controlled crash pretty much initiated by the feds, and others view it as his last big heist before he left office). My then blue dog rep (in my ultra-conservative "home of Ron Paul" county) voted against the bailout only because he had an election coming up.

14. UYes the Dems including Obama gothte bailouts passed last Fall. They went right along with
Bush Dems even took credit for it.

I have to respect the Dems and even the repubs who came out against it.
