Obama Should Use The AIG Bonus Scandal To Hike Top Tax Rate On Million Dollar Earners-Take That GOP!
Edited on Tue Mar-17-09 10:08 PM by Median Democrat
Fuck the executives. Why don't we just return top marginal tax rates on million dollar wage earners to what they have been historically according to the Tax Policy Center. In other words, use the GOP's alleged populist rage against them to pass a tax hike on all of these executives:

<>

Or, if a company is receiving a government bailout, and an executive makes more than a million, then the exec pays one of the top marginal tax rates that have been imposed in the past. How's 90%? We have done it before.

2. 1932 until Raygun it was well over 50%
So why is it folks think Republicants are needed to run a country and act like adults?

A: The corporate media propaganda organ of the money elites.

On bended knee, the remnants of the 4th estate received their daily bread from Ronald Raygun. And the rest... well I'll look for the rest rectally.

5. The Media Is Trying To Shift Blame To Obama To Avoid Focus On Executives
If the people focus on these WSJ executives, then it will be a slam dunk to increase the top marginal tax rate. So, instead, the Obama administration takes the fall for contracts that were negotiated during the Bush administration.

7. The corporatist media is killing its egg-laying goose.
and when we all have to cancel our cable they will have sold the rope to hang themselves.
The media is complicit in the betrayal of democracy and are traitors.

O'bama needs to use his big ol; brain to take a firehose to the media - the propaganda organ of corporatism- or he'll have no effect.

8. I Think The Democrats and Obama Are Trying To Use This Scandal As Suggested, But...
It is clear that the right wing media and Republicans see this, and are trying to turn AIG scandal into a blame game to take the attention off of the executives who received the bonuses and ran the country into the ground. Indeed, isn't it ironic that Republicans have been out in force fighting the repeal of the Bush tax cuts that benefit many of the AIG executives who received the bonuses at issue?

Notice also that the Democrats have already begun action on leving an excise tax on the AIG executives. The Republican right wing media, aided by some trolls on DU, are trying to turn this into a blame Obama game. However, the big picture is that the Obama administration and Democrats are using this to focus on the executives who tax breaks the Republicans feverishly try to protect.

3. Top MArginal Rate should be 94%
so long as we are in an economic crisis and a war.

Either one gets over, drop it to 82%.

Both are done, go to 61% and leave it there.

6. Yep. This is too good of an opportunity to pass up.
Watch that faux outrage whither on the vine when they realize "Hey, wait! We aren't really populist!"

Obama could really push them into a corner on this. I hope he does.

12. Hmmm I wonder what effect that would have on the lottery?
Of course, it would probably depend on how smart the people are that win the lottery.

14. It shoud be called the "Reagan Tax Renewal Act"
Go back to at least 50%. I'm big on the top marginal tax rate too. I personally thing it's one of the causes of most of our society's problems right now.

15. The Amazing Thing Is Republicans Expressing Outrage, But Fight Tax Hikes On Executives
It is okay to express outrage, and blame the government, but god forbid that we raise marginal tax rates on the rich. That's just un-American. It fits nicely into the Reagan, "Government is the problem" philosophy.
