4. however
the point is:

the current populist fury is at least in part about paying these retention bonuses to AIG people in the London office, the very folks who orchestrated the complicated credit default swaps that helped created this financial fiasco

my point is: Bush paid them retention bonuses and no one cared

now that dems are paying them, the rethugs have stoked the flames of populist fury and are directing it at Geithner.....

bush was also trying to save AIG.....if we had let AIG fail, the world would never buy our bonds again

alas, i can't find the timeline on line....it's in today's paper edition of the ny times...front page story...."Treasury Secy Facing Defining Moment"

but i can't find it on line

3. Bush never did a damn thing standing up to Big Business. Not a damn thing.
At least Obama's trying.

8. It wasn't widely reported?
I think either the earlier bonuses weren't widely reported, or reported in such a way that made it sound less offensive than the current bonuses. I personally don't recall any mainstream TV news source reporting about the earlier AIG bonuses (but I don't watch much TV).

Another possible explanation is that people realize the current bonuses are being paid with tax dollars, but maybe thought the older bonuses were paid with private funds. Again, I think it all has to do with the reporting.

9. i think it has to do with reading
something too many folks don't do

the earlier bonuses were too reported

just now we're forgetting and also letting rethugs stoke flames of
anti-Geithner hatred

we're letting rethugs take over

13. No no. Didn't mean to make you defensive.
Of course you weren't lauding B*sh! What I meant was that there's so much blame now directed at Obama when the Republicans never said squat about what was done with the TARP and bonuses (or anything else that benefited Big Business) by the previous administration.

6. Mighty fine question
Where was our party then? Why do we continually allow the RW to frame the debate?

Did anyone think that the GOP was just going to slink away with their tails between their legs, don't count on it.

7. exactly
why, oh why, do dems allow rethugs to frame the debate????????

why oh why is Obama saying he's taking responsibilty?

granted, we have no choice but to bail out AIG, else the entire global financial system collapses

but why are we allowing rethugs to fan the flames of populist outrage?

or to go after Geithner?

what is wrong with dems?

12. They're mostly harmless
They're so consistently wrong that their most ardent outrages and boisterous claims are forgotten within two months.

These are idiots who thought Obama was "in trouble" in Pennsylvania. Once you're that kind of fucking wrong, who can take your pronouncements seriously?
