...Imagine if he would have made that during the campaign, with Palin having a child with Down. McCain would likely now be the president. As the father of a child with Down, I don't honestly think he meant anything hurtful by it. At least, that's my take on it.

1. Wow. You are thinking in overtime, aren't you?

Hypotheticals don't count in this case.

That's like saying what if Joe Biden had called Barack Obama "Articulate and Clean" after he had been chosen as his Veep? It didn't happen that way, so why think about if it had? Makes no sense to me. The President apologized, and that has to be the end of this. Those who will continue to feel hurt by this, will have to hope that the President will do more to amend. If he doesn't, then folks still bent out of shape about this by 2012 should vote for the opposition party. period. geeze! :eyes:

9. You're right, hypotheticals don't count. I was really just making a simple comentary...
...about what I thought was a pretty small "gaffe" that could have been bad. But, what I didn't want to do was offend people and stir things up. I, like you, believe this to be silly and blown out of proportion. My bad.

2. Oh, for Heaven's sakes... Go back and look at how many gaffes
were made on this and every other campaign. Most people are intelligent enough to distinguish an errant comment from the persons' entire lifetime of behavior.

Would Palin have tried to make hay of the comment--of course. But, as gaffe-prone as McCain was throughout that campaign, I suspect he would have said something to give Obama benefit of the doubt a bit later. McCain and most would do that because it doesn't cost them anything to be gracious and it somewhat immunizes them when they themselves make an even worst gaffe somtime in the future.

3. Please go away!
You folks that are pimping Obama's comment are starting to become tiresome. The OP's comment is just silly.

and the campaign would have trotted out people like my mother to talk about how much they believe in President Obama's programs and an outside group would trot out people with disabled children in Alaska to call Palin a hypocrite for cutting funding for special needs kids while using her kid as a prop.

5. Exactly!

Did you hear how Palin

" was shocked" by Pres. Obama's comment, yet
she turns down money for her state that would
help fund Special Education programs?

She is one sickening hypocrite!

7. Are you one of those who goes lookin' for trouble, even when it's not around?
For gosh sakes, don't we have enough real situations to be concerned with, without making stuff up.

Yeah, that coulda happened. And Hillary coulda said the same thing, and that would've been horrible. Or either of them could've said any number of things, and that would've cost them the election. Hillary apparently DID do some things that cost her the nomination (or Obama did NOT do some negative things, which won him the nomination, whichever way you look at it).

But the fact is, that didn't happen. McCain was the one who screwed up. The Dems won. All politicians make gaffes....all of them. No exceptions. As far as gaffes go, that was a pretty small one. So let's for forward and not beg for trouble, and keep our eyes on the massive problems confronting our country and the world.

...more of an indictment over how I think the MSM would have played that out then vice now. You're right, it is purely hypothetical. I hope I didn't offend, because that certainly wasn't my intention.
