Mrs. Obama Speaks Out About Her Household

Michelle Obama and Washington schoolchildren helped break ground on Friday for a vegetable garden on the South Lawn.

WASHINGTON — Reporters are not the only ones with a particularly keen interest in what Michelle Obama wears. Her husband, Mrs. Obama says, notices everything. In fact, she has learned not to wear a certain gray metallic belt when the president is around.

“Barack calls it my ‘Star Trek’ belt,” the first lady said in an interview this week. “He doesn’t understand fashion.”

The interview, which started out on the subject of the new White House vegetable garden, ended up ranging over a variety of household topics, which Mrs. Obama addressed with substantial fun-poking at her husband, her mother and herself.

On the president and her wardrobe:

“He’s always asking: ‘Is that new? I haven’t seen that before.’ It’s like, Why don’t you mind your own business? Solve world hunger. Get out of my closet.” :spray:

She teasingly imitated him: “You didn’t need any more shoes. The shoes you had on yesterday were fine. Why can’t you just wear that for the rest of the presidency?”

5. I laughed at that line, "go solve world hunger".
and get out of my closet.

Now, who in the world could say that to their husband and perhaps have that actually happen? Not me. :D

3. I am so glad that the media are treating her with the respect and
decency that she deserves. They give her a lot of publicity for the causes she wants to promote, and they are doing it in a manner that suggests that even a lot of journalists respect, if not 'love' her and the things she does.

They allow her sense of humor and her humanity and yes, her motherhood, to shine and sparkle, lighting up a position that could have major influence on how this country is seen in the eyes of the rest of the world. She is regaining for women a sense of cause and dignity and movement that has been missing for a long time.

And since she has a wonderful gift for raising awareness and winning influential supporters that are willling to help further her pet causes, he media seems to be going out of their way to promote her 'agenda', to give her credit for actually getting out amongst the great unwashed and being the First Lady for the whole country, not just a select few individuals.

6. Funny how things change
Remember when she made the comment about being proud to be an American again? They raked her through the mud and over the coals on that one. Now they keep their filthy mouths shut. She and her entire family are as popular as Jackie and the Kennedy kids!

That's why I don't worry about any attacks on the Obama's. Their popularity has a very solid foundation, based on the truth about them. It's not manufactured by the media like the Bush's were.

8. Best line ever!
“He’s always asking: ‘Is that new? I haven’t seen that before.’ It’s like, Why don’t you mind your own business? Solve world hunger. Get out of my closet.”

9. OMG talk about being real
“She thinks Malia and Sasha should have dessert every day, three times a day,” the first lady said. “When I remind her that the girls had ice cream after school, she says, ‘Why can’t they have pie now?’ I’m like, ‘Who are you? What did you do with my mother?’ ”

She could be talking about my mom--never allowed sweets, never served dessert, and yet now that she's a grandmother she thinks nothing of shoveling all kinds of stuff into MG Jr's gullet--ice cream, then cookies, then cake, then M&Ms...all in the course of about an hour.
