City Democrat takes state post
Fort Wayne Journal Gazette 3/23/09

A Fort Wayne woman recognized for her local effort to garner support for President Obama during his campaign has been elected secretary of the Indiana Democratic Party.

Sofia Rodriguez Mirwaldt won the seat over incumbent Fay Allen of Jeffersonville, in a 13-5 vote, according to party Chairman Dan Parker.

Rodriguez Mirwaldt, 36, served as the 3rd Congressional District’s national delegate to the Democratic National Convention last August, Parker said.

“She came highly recommended from the Obama campaign,” Parker said.

Sofia had not been involved in politics before Obama. She got involved locally and even went to Nevada to help out in the primary.

Sofia provides our area with a voice down in Indy.

5. Hubby really like one of their brews, but knew I was about to puke
with all of those "special" license plates every where! This was Auburn, but I expect it didn't fall too far from the Fort Wayne tree.

Been there too. About the same culture.

Checked the Election results, Barack came within 6,000 out of 140,000 votes... never thought a democrat would do that well there.

They got killed on the down ticket races, all of them, which shows the strength of the party in the area. Very good they got a new person as a leader.

7. We witnessed the Republican Party HQ polebarn
...sign and all announcing it. :puke: It made me ill (literally!!!) I have to wonder how long a structure would stand with a Democratic Party HQ shingle on it. But they might be surprised to find 6,000 volunteers showing up to knock on doors if they opened one.

8. I'm guessing canvassing in Fort Wayne was not fun
I could tell alot of stories about the attitude but most people there were nice and friendly. Alot of people though vote against their interest there on social issues. More so than I'm accustomed to on the East Coast.
