2. Thanks! Looks like he really made their ratings jump compared to

the other channels. I'm assuming 60 Minutes doesn't usually get more viewers than ABC. But he got more viewers on Leno-over 20 million, I think.

20. It also bears remembering that 60 Minutes was actually delayed 1 hour, because of NCAA basketball.
Instead of competing with America's Funniest Home Videos and Dateline NBC in its usual 7 PM time slot, it went head to head with Extreme Makeover and a new Simpsons episode right in the middle of prime time.

26. That's right...
His interview was pushed back because of the BB game and it STILL got great ratings!

18. Probably this from the NYT:
http://tvdecoder.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/03/23/ratings-60-minutes-featuring-obama-interview-draws-16-million/

And another (from Entertainment Weekly):

http://hollywoodinsider.ew.com/2009/03/ratings-obama-1.html

No matter which one you use, though, it's a pretty safe bet to say that 60 Minutes was the most widely watched show that night--more than NCAA Basketball or Desperate Housewives.

possible to distort Obama and what he's doing so a lot of us are thrilled to hear from the Prez, himself.

Fuck all has to do with being a "Leo".

running all over the damn board with your right wing talking points. It's pure Bullshit and smart people know it.

He's out there getting his message out because the fucking media twists every damn word he says. You may be tired of it but those of us who want to hear for ourselves what he ays without the media spin are enjoying seeing him.

22. These three appearances are Obama doing and end run around the hysterical media
that can't decipher between their ass and their elbow as exhibited by their wildly flipping memes on a daily basis.

At Leno, he talked straight to the people.

On 60 Minutes, he talked straight to the American people.

And, again tonight, he'll do the same.

It's brilliant both because he gets to stick to his message and because in all three venues had to take off-the-cuff questions and because of his curiousity, studying and intellect is able to handle them all articulately and well.

Builds a lot of confidence in the American people when they see him do this. Especially after the horrible performances we saw for 8 long years.

23. You are right on the money!
And he needs to do this early, while there are some in the U.S. who are making up their mind on what kind of leader he truly is. He is not allowing the press to define his presidency, and that's the way it should be.

The media shaped Bush's persona, and Bush supported that because his real persona is totally underwhelming. The opposite is true for Barack Obama. His true persona is much more compelling than the media would have us believe.

The media wasn't quite prepare for this. They thought he'd act according to what they would determine. Not happening. Too bad for them. :(

27. I agree. But of course, Andrea Mitchell reported on
how Obama will use a teleprompter for his opening statement, and she asked her guest (I forget who it was) if she finds it unusual, and she did. :eyes:

28. The fact that Mrs. Greenspan asked that question erodes the final shred of journalistic cred she was
still clinging to.

She's been covering Washington since Carter was in office.

She knows damn well that every President since Carter has used teleprompters during any and all "opening remarks."

In fact, I'm going to write her a letter, not an email, telling her so. It is a ludicrous and ridiculous smear by the wingnuts and shouldn't even be mentioned on "serious" news program.

It's like pontificating about how many times a day the President visits the rest room. Silly, irrelvant and as all humans know, a frequent and universal act.

29. I kind of agree...
but I think she lost her credibility before this latest comment. I've emailed and called NBC quite a few times complaining about not only her questions but her awful style-pausing, misreading, not knowing when to stop talking while asking a question, no follow-ups as if she's not even listening, etc.
