Anyone remember when we were all BEGGING for...
...an intelligent President? We wanted someone elected who was smarter than we were? We wanted a president who completely understood issues that we struggled to understand?

I think we got him. :patriot:

3. I know we did.
He never does disappoint. And his quiet confidence in himself is the bonus in the deal. He's a leader who is unshakeable.

20. I know. Every day when he speaks about an issue...
...or legislation, or a new appointment, I am reminded that THIS is why we worked so hard for so long. I'd never expect perfection in any human being...even a President...but intelligence is a MUST. Barack Obama delivers on that every day.

The message that alone projects to the world is, "Yes, finally, America got its act together." FINALLY. :hi:

If anything, he just makes them look worse.

21. Same here. But he worked hard, too, to be elected...
...and now he deserves the opportunity to use that intelligence. JMHO.

Might be a bit off-topic..

Yes, Obama is a very intelligent man, and I am glad we elected an intelligent human being. He's certainly smarter than I am, and smarter than many Americans. The way a president should be.

What I'm about to write has noting to do with Obama but....

But I don't really think Obama cares that he's smarter than us. I think Obama looks to everyone as equals, and that we're all in this together no matter how smart we are, and that he's a person open to hear all sides of an issue, even from people who are "not as smart".

That's why I find it funny when the only rebuttal from some here when another DUer questions Obama is "He's smarter than you, na, na, na, na!" (paraphrasing there). Almost like we can't question Obama because we are less superior intellectually.

Obama, to me, doesn't see it that way. But that's DU for ya.

22. Not OT at all. I agree with you that Obama...
...sees regular Americans as equals. He treats everyone with respect, and never talks down to people. I think that reflects well on him...he's a class act.

As to questioning our elected officials...that's our JOB as citizens. IMO, it's a bit childish to do the 'na, na, na' thing...unless a person is just teasing good-naturedly.

23. I think he is that way - treating everyone with respect
because he came from the middle class. His beginnings were humble and he's experienced what it's like to not have enough money, to see what it's like for a family member to not have work or to be underemployed. His mom and grand-mom must be very proud of their young man. He is one of the best humans to inhabit the white house ever and wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't run a close second behind Lincoln when all is said in done in about 8+ years.

24. I, too, have great hopes for what he...
...may be able to accomplish. My hope comes from knowing he is intelligent enough to understand problems we face and find solutions, seeing that he has great empathy for all people (even those who don't agree with him), and observing that he is willing to learn from what has gone before (both in politics and policy) and builds a strong foundation for the things he proposes.

Had we elected McCain, I'd be very afraid. :7
