Poll question: Is Geithner seeking power to take over non-bank financials a step in the right direction?
I think it is, at least symbolically.

1. The Pubs and investor class hate the idea, but it's a good one.
If they had had that authority 3 months ago, they could have taken over control of AIG, voided the contracts, and fired the greedy idiots who got us here. I haven't seen any problems with the FDIC doing the same with banks. Have you?

4. I've just invested in AIG and I think that it should be taken over.
It will actually be the quickest way to restore the WHOLE company to profitability.

That part of AIG which is dragging everything down needs to go, but be removed properly. I don't trust the execs of that AIG portion to know how to do it without screwing everything up again.

7. I do. I still don't like ''cash for trash.'' Is there some other piece that's troubling?

8. With his track record, the thought of giving him the ability to
incur trillions of additional costs is scary to say the least.
