Dean smacks down Scarborough: Budget criticism 'total nonsense'
-----

On his Morning Joe show, MSNBC's Joe Scarborough criticized President Obama's budget proposal Wednesday morning, claiming that it was similar to what the GOP did during "eight years of recklessness."

"Did we choose this? He always talks about moving this in a new direction. Fiscally, this is going down the same path that George Bush and Republicans took us down eight years," Scarborough asserted.

Dean interrupted, "Joe, that's total nonsense."

"In your heart that the spending proposed in this budget, what we are bailing out Wall Street, is unsustainable," argued Scarborough.

Dean disagreed.

"First of all, there's -- there's no federal balance sheet affected by the Geithner proposal to deal with getting the toxic assets off," explained Dean. "They very wisely put a lot of private money into that and that's guaranteed by the federal government and we are going to end up making money off that.".

"Second of all, we are not nationalizing health care," Dean added. "We are giving the American people a choice of what they want to do. Which is a lot better than not giving them the choice."

6. SG is a meaningless post and Dean has no interest whatsoever in it.
If he wasn't going to get HHS, this is a good place for him- pushing Obama from the outside on healthcare.

"Howard Dean To Become Regular CNBC Contributor" (VIDEO)

www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/03/23/howard-dean-to-become-reg_...
sent by partynut since 1 day 22 hours 22 minutes

"Former DNC Chair Howard Dean will become a regular contributor for the business news network CNBC, a source close to the former Vermont Governor confirms. Dean started his new gig on Monday morning with a guest-hosting appearance on the station. The move comes at a time when CNBC is under intense pressure to change its format and criticism for its failures to report or foresee much of today's economic crisis. In this regard, Dean -- who worked on Wall Street after graduating college and has family ties to the financial sector, but has nevertheless been an early critic of the business practices that contributed to the current recession -- should be a refreshing presence, particularly for progressive economists. But the decision to bring the recently departed DNC Chair on board, the source says, was finalized well before the current wave of CNBC-angst. ~~~~~ "I'm going to be neutral between Jon Stewart -- who I'm enormously fond of -- and Cramer," Dean told Politico. "I like CNBC because I can offer them a different perspective that they would find useful."

12. It was almost as enjoyable as Zbigniew Brzezinski telling he wasn't knowledgeable
Dean was serious. Joe was SHOCKED.

If Dean gets the opportunity to come on Morning Joe as much as Mike whatever, Joe might be as easy going as he says. Zbigniew Brzezinski comes on and basically takes Joe to task on everything he has said.

If Joe can get more guests on like Zbigniew Brzezinski, I'll be willing to stop contradicting everything he says the entire time he is talking.

14. Go Dean !! I like him out there in the punditocracy !!
He's a solid speaker with a broader range of experience than most of those people.

I like his being out there pushing one major topic but weighing in on other important areas he has experience of too, like managing budgets.

I've enjoyed seeing Dr. Dean on the various news shows.
