Rep. Cantor speaks out on Britney concert
Posted: 01:31 PM ET

(CNN) — House Republican Whip Eric Cantor — among the unlikeliest attendees at a Britney Spears concert earlier this week in Washington — told CNN Thursday he went to the teen-dominated show for a political event, to "help the team."

"I had a political event there, and it was simply because it was there to help the team, that's why I was there," Cantor told CNN's Dana Bash.

According to a Republican aide, Cantor was specifically raising money at the concert for his political action committee, ERICPAC. The event was hosted by the Truckers Association, which has a box at the Verizon Center, where Spears was performing.

The Web site Wonkette first reported Cantor was spotted at the event, which took place as President Obama held a prime-time press conference.

Cantor told CNN the concert — part of the singer's "Circus" tour — was "quite a show."

"I hand it to the performer, she was something," he said.

The congressman also said his daughter was "really mad" he did not bring her to the concert. "She had school that day, and the next, and I wasn't going to bring her up here to miss it."

2. Come on Cantor, you were there to check out the teenage girls...
Why else would anyone his age go to a Spears concert without his kids...

3. A senator and a bunch of truckers watching Britney Spears -- brilliant
Edited on Thu Mar-26-09 01:12 PM by rocktivity
He SHOULD have brought ALONG his daughter, because then he could have claimed he skipped Obama's presser to spend time with her AND been a position to call anyone who questioned him a hypocrite because Obama skipped the Gridiron dinner to be with HIS kids. Instead, he spent the evening drooling over Britney Spears accompanined by truckers. So family friendly!

4. What Does He Think About Her Song "F-U-C-K Me"?
Shouldn't someone ask this "family values" Republican what he thinks of that song?

6. I'm so effing sick of the double standard. Can anyone even imagine
the freaking shitstorm that would be going on on the teevees right now if this had been a Democrat instead of Republican?

I thought this story was ridiculous enough when I just assumed he was there with his daughter.

The fact that he was up in some skybox with a bunch of old fat lobbyists drinking and watching this concert seriously makes me want to hurl. What a nasty weirdo this dude is and I'm so glad that this has come to light.

And for all of those who want to say that this is silly and doesn't matter....I challenge you to reconsider your defense by envisioning the brouhaha that would be erupting in the media has this been a Democrat and not a Republican.

Hypocrite! And I can tell you, his culturally uptight constituents aren't going to like this one bit!

16. I'll be blunt, I get a date rapist vibe from him.
I have an image of him as the typical 80's movie villain; wearing a thick gold chain, driving a black Camaro and saying things like, "baby, you know you wanted it".

He is creepy.
