Bob Somerby now attacking Rachel Maddow.
It seems he's decided to extend his vendetta against Olbemann to Rachel.

Please email him and ask him to stop: bobsomerby@hotmail.com

2. Since I'm not a Republican, I'm going to need details on what was said.

If I do write something to Bob Somerby, I don't want to pull something out of my azz.

5. It might take me a while...
...since I like to know what I'm talking about before I speak.

Besides, he's probably too big to pay attention to the likes of me. I imagine his Hotmail account must be full to bursting with fan mail.

8. I don't seem to be the only one who doesn't know of who or what you speak of, Sooo...
it seems that Mr. Somerby isn't fit to take Rachel's suit jackets to the dry cleaners.

No one knows who he is. And nobody cares. That makes whatever he has to say about anybody or anything, including Rachel Maddow, irrelevant.

12. maybe that's why he's going after maddow....
the olbermann/o'rielly feud has been so good for both of them, maybe he hopes striking a feud of his own will get him some ratings.

BTW, the page in question is most likely this one.
While there are some points there, calling a segment of Rachel's "Hannity Lite" might be a bit much.

10. OK I read the Daily Howler... and he does raise some good points.
Edited on Thu Mar-26-09 03:08 PM by redqueen
Keith does harp about stupid crap... and it seems Rachel did go easy on Shaheen.

I doubt she'd have been nasty like Billo, if that's what Bob expects... but maybe some more pointed questions is all he is after.

Either way, I see no reason for outrage at his opinions of their coverage.

on edit: I'm surprised that more people don't know who Bob Somerby is.

13. If the OP had added some details as to his website, what he said, why should we care.
The name sounded familiar, but I couldn't place it until you mentioned the Daily Howler.

17. She went easy on Shaheen, I think,
because at least twice Shaheen has complemented her. She/Shaheen recognized the issue(s) and did her best to explain the position. Rachel does not get nasty, and there's been no reason to do so.

If this guy got nasty about Rachel, I'll have a few words for HIM!

24. I wouldn't say he got nasty...
just commented on the contrast between Rachel's treatment of the issue when she wasn't speaking directly to Shaheen vs. when she was.

If he wanted her to get nasty then whatever... but if he simply meant he wanted more pointed questions... I could see that.

nice person. It is funny to see her do a mean windup and then throw a softball.

I have never heard of Bob Somerby, so why should I care what he says?

Let him scream into the void to his heart's content.

19. The Daily Howler Was Indispensible
in unraveling the media campaign against Al Gore in 2000. I loved that site, but don't visit it regularly.

It is distressing when one person you like attacks another; however, people are individuals and have their own opinions. It keeps things in perspective.

21. He was basically complimentary to her, with some caveats. I wonder who you are.
He calls em as he sees em, about the liberal press & liberal political commentators. He's being no different with Maddow. I myself cringe now when she does too much shtick—like that "teensy-teensy-tiny-tiny..." thing she does. She usually is an excellent interviewer—and Somerby says she was, with Dorgan. But I saw that Shaheen segment, and it was a little lame. She let Shaheen get off with babbling boilerplate stuff. Somerby said she could have the best show on the planet. I agree, and I hope she listens.

But what's with the second attempt to organize an email protest against him? Are you a producer at MSNBC or something?

27. Elementary, my dear Olbemann?....
What suspicion runs high when common words or names are misspelt? (Olbemann?)

"...extend his vendetta against Olbemann to Rachel."

What suspicion runs high when vague, unsourced OP's are offered? (No source links are in the OP.)

N/A

What could it be? (I just don't know.)

"By now, it’s fairly clear: If liberals and progressives don’t get it right, absolutely nobody will. For that reason, we think the most important problems afflicting the media are those emerging within our growing progressive media. A modern nation can’t run on dumb. And if progressives and liberals don’t save us from dumb, it’s fairly clear nobody will."
