Poll question: Pullin' a Rachel - Someone talk me down about Rahm Emanuel, please.
I just cannot accept how someone that literally was involved in the financial meltdown, in his own small way, can be trusted to help lead us out of it without bending the collective taxpayers over on the bed with these toxic buys while allowing many of these idiots to stay in their VP and CEO positions while taking billions from the taxpayer in bailouts - shouldn't they be forced to step down, and replaced with someone who takes an oath in promising that the taxpayers money will not be wasted on unearned bonuses and non-transparency?

I'm just so fed up I'm about to explode! And then there's Geithner! I just looked up bios on both of them, and I worry they're another couple Madoff's - just with titles.

So, please, someone tell me how the taxpayers aren't getting rolled outside the 7-11 for all we got by these shady deals - If someone has a very good background in economic studies, or can point me to a video of someone talking about how these guys are doing the right thing - that isn't just layman speak - then please do it - I'd love to hear what they're doing is good for the country - I have a feeling that what they're doing is good for business, and they think THAT will be good for the country ultimately, and that's the kind of anti-Union, anti-worker, BS that got us into this mess along with dirty mortgage and investment practices!

I realize that our president, who I really am liking, says that there will be restrictions placed on the financial sector, but is that enough - and shouldn't SOMEONE go to prison for this mess OTHER than their patsy for the media - Madoff! I think it goes way up the ladder in Congress, and people are hiding the truth at every turn, and their millions and billions to boot.

Someone talk me down - I want to believe Geithner and Emanuel are good guys! It's just they're making it very hard. If I'm off track, please educate me as I'm willing to listen.

1. This is why Obama's tied to Wall St and big corporations.
Summers and Geithner have been part of the problem, by history. ... rotten from the inside.

4. I Think Geithner and Emanuel are Good Guys
But what exactly have you found in their bios to make you think either is another Madoff?

18. The absence of a junkyard dog like RE is what hurt Clinton early on.

7. I think Rahm
is right for the job, but he is still a scumbag and part of the politics of old. But if he does a good job, I can forgive his faults.

9. hey bigwillq! hope you're good
I, too, feel 100% just like you do. Just reading all the other stuff about them, and their past that I only partly knew about but didn't like, then coinciding with the news of this bonus mess and seeing they're going ahead and buying like a trillion in toxic loans makes me kinda irate about it all again.

sigh. hopefully - he will do his job, and I surely expect Pres. O to be watching him more than just about anyone, but he clearly trusts him. We're not out of the woods by any means, as most people are suffering.

best to you!

11. Obama is NOT a fool
Therefore, I have no reason to think he would choose Geithner and Emanuel to aid him if he did not have complete faith in their ability.

12. I think your taxonomy is wrong. It is not YEAH RAHMBO IS GREAT OR
NO HE IS A CORPORATE WHORE.

Rahm is the man for this job because he plays hardball. He is also a ConservaDem. He is practical and ball buster (is it pc to say that about a man or a woman?). When he comes to play, Congressional Democrats know he is not playing.

As far as Summers and Geitner, I will defer to Cenk on that.

Obama is not beholden to Wall Street in the way that Clinton was. I think the deal with Wall Street is he is trying to negotiate with them. I don't think he is showing them a jail cell versus buying into his plan, not at this step.

I think Obama is at the step that he is on with Republicans: play ball or get taken. Obama has not delineated what the consequences are for crossing him.

That is what Rahmbo is for.

13. I can't really think of anything in particular to get mad at Rahm about..
..except for maybe helping shut Dean out of the cabinet. Also, with Geithner, I'm hoping he has a multi-stage plan and the toxic assets buyout is just stage one.

Do you really want to believe that Geithner and Emanuel are good guys? Are ya sure. I REALLY REALLY REALLY want to believe they're good guys and it would take more than a random hit-piece to change my mind.

Here's what I dont get ... and this is a general comment not directed at JUST you.

I dont understand how those who want to criticize any of these guys in the admin can do so without having the balls to criticize the President as well. To insulate him from criticism (and I'm not saying he shouldn't be criticized, go ahead if you feel inclined) is to say that he is either 1. stupid and being hoodwinked by these guys or 2. just as "evil"/"incompetent" as you (again, speaking in general) perceive the person in question to be.

Since I have yet hear anyone here accuse Barack Obama of either of those things, perhaps you'll understand my failure to understand the logic behind it all.

Until the President tells me there's a problem with any of these folks, I'm gonna assume that they're doing ok.

And to save someone else the trouble...

22. me neither
weasely is how he comes across to me, but then again, I've never met him in person, but I NEVER, repeat NEVER liked seeing him on TV for years, and felt he was one of the Dem-types that upset the progressives frequently. Now, I really like Pres. Obama, so I have to take it that Rahm is a bulldog and gets stuff done, and, Obama approves or disapproves the big things, so, I've been talked down over Rahm. I won't get upset unless these toxic buys with taxpayer cash are proven horribly wrong, and then I'll not only blame Geithner and Rahm, but the guy in charge. I'm believing the president though when he says that the worst appears to be over and recovery will start by the end of the year.
