Please support Notre Dame University and its invitation to President Obama.
Notre Dame's President, Fr. John Jenkins, is facing a vicious, organized campaign led by Randall Terry (Operation Rescue) against its invitation to President Obama to speak at its graduation in May. These efforts are described here:

http://www.stopobamanotredame.com/march.htm

We can counter these efforts by making our own phone calls and writing emails in support of

Fr. John I. Jenkins C.S.C., president of ND:

Phone: 574-631-5000
Fax: 574-631-2770
Email: president@nd.edu
Mailing: 317 Main Building, Notre Dame, IN 46556

Also write letters of support to his order, Congregation of Holy Cross:
Indiana Province: www.cscip.org/contact-us/
Rome Office: www.holycrosscongregation.org/
english/contact.htm

If you are Catholic, you might also want to contact your Bishop and ask him for his support of Father Jenkins and Notre Dame's invitation to the President of the United States.

7. You have a problem with Obama speaking at Notre Dame?
Catholics make up half the Christians in the U.S. and they were a key swing vote in the November election. I think it's important to support Catholics progressives who have to fight the Church's right-wing.

10. I don't think anyone does
Just a lot of people hate their football program. I hope they do put the final nail in the coffin of their football program by telling the first black president he is no longer welcome because some powerful alums don't fancy you. I'd just love to see Charlie Weiss try to walk into the home of a black football player about how great a place Notre Dame would be for him after that. I'm sure his parents would be dying to sign off on that.

12. I don't care about anyone's football program.
I do care about retaining the Catholic vote in the next election.

9. He already accepted. That's what's caused the furor and campaign against him.
Having to back out would be interpreted as a sign of weakness.

13. I don't know if Notre Dame is . . . but the national media are.
He's managed to get more than 150,000 signatures on his petition so far, and he's trying to turn this into a Catholics-against-Obama thing. I think progressive Catholics should make their voices heard as well.

sign a petition opposed to President Obama.

Edited on Fri Mar-27-09 10:31 AM by LiberalFighter
I guess he is a Catholic. So that makes him a nutjob scumbag Catholic. And I wonder if he ever got an annulment from his first wife.

18. Screw Notre Dame
I hope the president declines the invite. The response to his invite has been disgusting but not surprising. There are many other universities that would be elated to have the president speak, Notre Dame greets the president with disrespect.
