All we hear about is Geithner...I think it's past time to let him do his job.

Maybe I've missed what Holder is working on, but I'd sure appreciate any comments.

1. the best DOJ moves are done in the background,
without attempting to "try a case in the public eye."

Or do you prefer the daze of Ashcroft, when he issued reports about breaking up terra-ist threats by spying on some Quakers?

3. You were fine here until you chose to insult the Original poster with the Ashcroft comment.
Take your schoolyard manners elsewhere. It was a legitimate inquiry by the OP.

4. Thank you! I was asked this question by a friend and didn't have an answer.
I wasn't being critical of Holder or the DOJ.

6. how was I insulting her?
by drawing a comparison to the moldy daze of olde?

All I tried to do was to highlight the differences. I certainly meant no insult or disrespect. If it was taken that way, I sincerely apologize.

I know I can be brusk and sarcastic, but that's a genetic issue.

Relief for Patients

Attorney General Eric Holder announced last week that the federal government will no longer prosecute dispensers of medical marijuana if they comply with state law. That should bring relief to people who need marijuana for health reasons and free up law enforcement resources for more important work.

There is considerable evidence that marijuana can be useful in treating pain, nausea, weight loss and other symptoms associated with chemotherapy and H.I.V. and other illnesses. Thirteen states, including California, have legalized marijuana for medical purposes, which remains illegal under federal law.

The Bush administration was, nevertheless, intent on stopping the medical use of marijuana. It brought criminal charges against medical marijuana dispensaries, even ones in states that had made medical use of marijuana legal. Federal prosecutors treated their targets like common drug traffickers.

In 2006, the Food and Drug Administration issued a poorly documented statement disputing marijuana’s therapeutic value. It was one of many cases in which the Bush team distorted science to justify its policies.

Mr. Holder’s statement does not mean an end to all medical marijuana prosecutions. The Drug Enforcement Administration says it will continue to go after dispensaries that violate state and federal laws, like by operating as fronts for drug dealers or selling to minors.

The Obama Justice Department has an enormous backlog of legal matters to work through, from enforcing long-ignored civil-rights laws to prosecuting white-collar criminals in the banking industry and on Wall Street. Mr. Holder deserves credit for recognizing that going after medical marijuana dispensers is not only bad policy, it is a distraction from work that really matters.

11. Don't know if this is Holder's doing or not, but the FBI has been looking into a
lot of corrupt politicians here in PA, including a county judge who put juveniles in prison for profit.(The former judge faces 7 years in prison.)
I know some of this was already underway, but I don't know what's new and what's old.
These guys are starting to run scared, though.

12. I saw that article and they should be running scared.
Also, the prisons in Texas where kids are being mistreated, big time. I believe Cheney has an interest in that contract prison.

13. The Judge here in PA had friends who started a for-profit
juvie facility, in which the Judge either had a share or was being paid by. He used his office to close the county juvie facility, sent at least twice the number of kids of any other county in the state to this place for no real reasons.
One 12 year old took his mom's car for a ride, crashed it with no harm to anyone else. His mom had to file a police report to collect insurance money, so the kid went to court. Mom, expecting a stern warning, didn't even hire a lawyer. Kid got 2 years in the juvie detention - at age 12!
They are investigating every case that bastard tried, and a lot of them will be reversed and I am waiting for the lawsuits to begin.

Imagine all the people this prick screwed up for life!
