If most Americans want single payer and there's a well designed public
option at the end of the health care reform road, we'll get to single payer within a few short years. In fact, we may get there faster via that route, than any other way. So if you really want single payer, that the place to put your energy. Not very complicated, really.

1. Nope. The first place to put your energy is to demand the real thing
Otherwise, the public option will be so watered down that it will be underfunded and not worth shit.

3. I actually think you can do both.
you can support Bernies legislation and sign up with Dean. (goodness, just noticed that both come out of Vermont. Makes me proud that my state is again standing up for the right thing)

2. I agree and I have a little problem with people thinking we can just up and put single payer
system without there being chaos. I believe as you do that if we design this correctly we will ultimately get to single payer. Our focus should be on that.

4. Its all about Dollars and Sense
Fact is we pay 2 - 3 times per capita what other countries pay for Universal Health Care. Also with a Health Care cost related Bankruptcy every 30 seconds in this country it just makes too much sense.

5. I agree. It would get the insurance jackels off our backs
and those who really need low cost insurance would be covered with the extended Medicare plan. Those who like their plan now, would probably eventually change over as they see the public plan is cheaper and just as good. It's the smartest way to go IMO.

7. The public plan will NOT be "just as good" if it is underfunded
Treating it as Plan B istead of our first choice is a way to fight for better funding in the event of falling back on Plan B.

9. I'd buy into it because it's better than nothing and
it could be done.. single payer is a pipe dream at this time. Obama was never in favor of it. Ducking .. Hillary's plan was always superior.

8. I want to see the plan - the name "single payer" doesn't tell me much
If single payer means a 20% tax on your paycheck I suspect some people won't be as happy with the idea. The employers I know can spend 30% above someones salary on benefits I figure the bulk of that is health care since it doesn't included pension just disability.
